Chapter three: Notice Me

Okay here is part three. It's supposed to be part of chapter two, but i got lazy typing it up. Oh, well. I hope it doesn't take away from the story. I hope you like it.

The next morning, Darien woke up in pain. He could barely lift his eyes open. His whole face was swollen up. He couldn't move. Most of his body was bandaged up.

"Good morning, master." Zed said.

"I can't move, Zed." he whispered.

"Oh, that's because Lita made sure to starch the bandages so you don't scratch your cuts and bruises. Now stay there and rest." Zed warned him.

Darien looked at the ceiling, and wondered why the people in the village hated him so. Closing his eyes, he wondered what if he could not have been born. But he kept reminding himself that scars healed eventually.

Weeks later, Darien convinced Lita that it was okay to take his bandages off.

"Well, how do I look?" Darien asked Michel.

Michel paused and then said, "Better than ever."

Darien smiled and said, "You're just saying that to get another raise. Now hand me that mirror."

Michel somewhat hesitated, but then handed Darien the mirror.

"Now remember, master. It's just been a few weeks, so, don't be too hard on yourself." Michel told him. Darien grabbed the mirror from his hand. He looked at his appearance. But it was unfamiliar to Darien. "Who am I?" Darien asked himself. "What am I?"

Michel lowered his face to the ground. Darien turned to face Michel and said, "There's only one thing to do."

Michel scrunched his eyebrows and said, "What do you mean, master?" A smile appeared on Darien's crooked mouth. "The scroll."

Michel stepped forward and told Darien, "You can't be serious?"

"I am." Darien answered bluntly.

"But master, there are other ways."

"Name one." Darien commanded.

"The physicians could take a look at it and, and..." Michel said stuttering.

"I don't trust anyone. Especially, doctors."

"But Jed told me that it's evil and dangerous!"

"It's the only way, Michel. The only way that everyone can accept me. All my life, people have looked at me like a monster. They've cursed and spat at me. Do you know what that feels like?"

Michel stood silent.

"No, because you've never been ubly a second in your life. What I'd give to feel skin soft as velvet. Not worrying about why they look at me in such a manner. Having confidence in myself again. I just want everyone to notice me, for once, not because of my scars, but for how beautiful I am."

"I don't know what to say, master. These past few years that I've been with you. I've seen your emptiness and misery in life, and I understand your pain. Maybe if this spell does work, I hope and wish in my heart that it will take away all the unhappiness that this has brought to you."

"Thank you, Michel." Darien said softly.

Then Michel bowed his head and stepped out of the room.

That evening, Darien paced the room back and forth. Trying to decide whether or not to use the spell. The wind blew through the trees and the rustling of leaves was heard inside the count's room. Suddenly, the wind opened one of the windows. The blast opened Darien's eyes and broke his concentration and stared at the scroll in his hands. Darien got up to close it, but paused for a moment when he saw the glowing moon. His thoughts wondered off to the goddess that danced with him. "If I transform. Maybe I could win her." With that thought in mind, he chanted the words:

"Maraturi Consa Shetu

Aratu Lunar Itaparas

Kasta Noriam Garlingodam." he said believing each word. Then without warning he felt a sharp pain in his head. He gasped and grabbed his head. The pain pulled him to the ground. He felt ill and shaky. Fear was in his eyes. Sweat drops began to form on his forehead. He began to feel very hot like something was trying to burn his skin off. He thought he was going to die of the pain. The unbearable pain. All of a sudden, it stopped. Darien was still shaking. He saw a small mirror across the room, but he feared what it would show him. So he closed his eyes, and kept telling himself that it was just a dream.

The sun shone brightly through the opened window of the master's room. Ami walked through the hallways of the castle and stopped in her tracks when she heard groaning noises from the count's room. She opened the door cautiously. She saw a body in the middle of the floor moving. It rose slowly up the ground. He faced her and she gave a yelp. Darien felt his face-no scars. He felt his hands they were soft and smooth. He looked at the frightened girl.

"Ami! Ami! It's me Count Desmond!"

Ami's eyes widened at the stunning revelation. His face now radiant. He had fresh new skin. All scars were erased, and his face glowed with a beautiful smile.

"It's amazing!" Ami finally said. "So sorry, master, I did not recognize you."

"Is it that..." he began, but his words were cut short when Ami handed him a mirror.

"At last!" he cried. Soon all the other servants came rushing in the room to see what the commotion was all about. Everyone stood in awe as they gazed at Darien.

"Master Darien!" Lita said with a half-smile.

"Please, Lita, don't drool on the carpet. You just starched them." Zed told her.

"Does it hurt, master?" Jed asked.

"It doesn't matter now. Look at me. I'm a miracle!" Darien shouted.

Michel and Nicholas exchanged puzzled glances then Michel said, "What are you going to do, now?"

Darien looked in the mirror again then said, "I'm going back to England."

Now, they were all confused and asked him politely why he had decided to journey so far.

But Darien never showed any emotions. So he told them that he needed to talk with Andrew again about the scroll, which was part true.

The count commanded the servants not to mention any of this to anyone. Not even Andrew. He wanted to surprise him. Maybe change his name so he could blend better with society. Yes, Count Desmond was dead, and now Prince Endymion was born. The time came and Prince Endymion presented himself to the Earl of France. The Earl somehow skeptic of his presentation, but he made it so convincingly witty that no one could resist him, especially the ladies in court. THey swooned and sighed over the prince's charms adn his overwhelming beauty. Now they covered him with their affections. Giddy laughters trickled Prince Endymion's ears whenever he told of jokes and humerous stories.

Just then everyone grew silent as Andrew clapped his hands to announce the arrival of her fiance.

The girl walked to him at his commanded and bowed to the people. She wore a blue garment that illuminated her every movement. Andrew pulled her closer to him and gave her a kiss. She seemed a little hesitant to accept it, but then gave one in return. She forced out a smile and then it quickly faded away.

Andrew turned to Prince Endymion then said, "Allow me to introduce you to my love and treasure. The light of my life...and the most beautiful woman on Earth, Princess Serenity."

Serena looked up to face him. Then she stared directly into his eyes. "Those eyes." she thought. "Have we met before?" she asked him. The prince gave her his best smile then said, "I don't think so. My name is Prince Endymion."

"Oh, well, then, never mind. I thought you were someone else."

Prince Endymion's whole being trembled when she stared into him like that. He quickly averted his eyes and told Andrew, "You are a lucky man."

"Yes, I am." Andrew said giving a possessive arm to Serena's waist.

"Well if you excuse me, I will be over there. I need a drink." Endymion said.

"Oh, certainly." Andrew told him. "While you're there could you fix me a glass of port?"

"Certainly." Endymion answered. Then looking back at Serena, he asked, "Do you want anything?"

Serena was still in deep thought looking him over with curiosity and intrigue.

"Uh, no, no thank you." she finally said. Then Andrew took her hand and led her to the dance floor. Serena rested her head on his chest as they danced to the music, but kept a watch over the handsome stranger. She asked Andrew if he seemed familiar to him, but he just shrugged and told her, "You know he does remind me of someone."

"Who?" she asked him. Then he smiled at her and said, "Uh, nobody...never mind."

Prince Endymion watched from afar. He took his glass of wine and gulped it. "What's the matter with me? How can I talk to her again?" Then he remembered the port Andrew had wanted.

You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
You'd be like Heaven to touch.
I want to hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
Pardon the way that I stare.
There's nothing else to compare.
The sight of you leaves me weak.
There are no words left to speak.
But if you feel like I feel.
Please let me know that it's real.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
I love you baby.
And if it's quite alright, I need you baby
To warm the lonely night.
I love you baby, trust in me when I say,
"Oh, pretty baby,
Don't bring me down, I pray.
Oh, pretty baby,
Now that I've found you, stay
And let me love you, baby.
Let me love you."
