Issue 1:
Yo, what's up dudes and dudets? This is the first installment of what hopefully won't be the only installment of my weekly column about life wrestling in the indys from my point of view. Hopefully this will give some people a good perspective on Michigan Independents, whether that be good or bad. So I guess that's my introduction.
I had been working heel in LSWO since January of 2000. I'd been doing the BIG Bully gimmick. I'd been enjoying it, especially since being a part of the team the Great Human Beings, or GHB- Gavin Starr, the HYPE Jimmy Shalwin, and the BIG Bully Jimmy Jacobs.
We had won the LSWO tag titles, the three of us had. We had some classic promos. I enjoyed it. Unfortunatly, I think I was the ONLY won who enjoyed it. My one partner, Gavin Starr, absolutly HATED being in this faction. Jimmy Shalwin wanted to work singles matches more, which is understandable. The booker hated the matches we put on. The problem with the GHB, as far as everyone was concerned, was me. As a heel, my work rate is very slow. My work was labeled "too gimmicky" which it was. For my size, I think it would be straight up stupid for me to try to wrestle like everybody else. It wouldn't make any sence. Nevertheless, this sets the stage for May 27th LSWO show.
I suppose it wasnt the smartest move to schedule a show Memorial weekend. When I arrives at the LSWO "arena" at 4:00 there were some last minute problems, as there are in most indy shows. There was worry about the gate. Some of the guys weren't going to show up. An hour and a half before bell time, one of the wrestlers showed up, and there was a nice confrontation ending in his departure from LSWO. So needless, to say, the moral wasn't the highest that night. I spent my time before the show sewing up the ring canvas. At 7:30, when the show was starting, about 30 people had showed up for the show. First match was Blitzkrieg Kid versus some j-brone from Ohio. The match went about 3 minutes with Blitz pinning him easily. Blitz made an open challenge for his cruiserweight title. Out came Special J and there was an impromptu match up. The match was awesome! They had a spot where they litterally exchanged 25 chops each, at least. The finish to the match was Special J giving Blitz an inverted huracanrana and winning the match and the title. The match was very good, to say the least. Now, I had to follow that! DAMN!
I was a little nervous. I wanted the match to be good. I wanted to show everybody that I was more than a few gimmick moves and that I could work. The match scheduled was me vs Gorgous Gavin Starr, my tag team partner. We got on the mic and cut another classic GHB schtick. Gavin and I said we absolutly refused to wrestle each other. Jimmy Shalwin then said he had a great way to solve our problem; he'd call up Britany Spears. After a few rings of the cell phone, Shalwin had Britany on the phone. She said htat she liked me more and that I should win. I thought I should have won too. I told Gavin to lay down for me. He got on the mic and said, "I don't even like Britany Spears! In fact, I think Christina Agulara is a lot better than Britnay Spears!" Christina had been in Holland the week prior so she was over big time there. When he wouldnt lay down for me, I said I'd just have to kick his ass.
The match started quick. We had an opening 10 move spot to start it out fast paced... unfortunatly, it just didnt go well. At one point, I was supposed to get irish whipped into the corner, spring board off the 2nd rope and backflip to land on my feet. Well, I went into the corner rather awkwardly. When I jumped the the 2nd rope, I lost my footing and my left foot slipped. BAM! Bump right on the back of my neck... Looking back at the tape, it looks worse than I had initially thought. We quickly recovered and the rest of the match went okay. Nothing great and nothing to be proud of, however. It was also Gavin's first time working as a face, which was a challenge for him. At one point in the match, Gavin was laying down in the corner after Jimmy Shalwin was choking him. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to give him a bronco buster, don't ask me why. While I was performing the move, I just hear Gavin go, "You f*cking d*ck!" Later on in the match, Gavin was giving me riding punches in the corner. After the 9th one, he thought it would be fun to get me back for the bronco buster so he humped my face one time before executing that last punch. The match ended shortly after with Gavin giving me a brain buster.
Later on in the night, the HYPE Jimy Shalwin fought Asten ToP DoG Williams, half of the Cocky Little Brats. This match turned into a tornado tag match for our tag titles. Some stiff punches, a few awkward bumps, and a demolished chair that had been on the receiving end of a somersault plancha from a 234 pound man, the Cocky Little Brats pinned me to become new tag champions. This lead to a falling out between Shawlin and me. The GHB are no more.
That's all for this week. I'll be back next week with what went down at the NSWA show in Jackson, MI and another show in Owosso that I'm wrestling on. I'll be facing X-Rated Jason Kronan which should be fun. Adios. Take care everybody. LaTeR
