Trailborn Kennels




Carl Johnson’s Trailborn Kennels, was founded in 1951. Mr. Carl Johnston was a member of our Michigan club and served as a club Director. Mr. Johnston also served as Club Treasurer 1957 and 1958 and Club President 1959. Vice President 1968 and Secretary 1967. Mr. Johnston was awarded honorary lifetime Membership by the Club.


Mr. Carl Johnston, resided in Farmington, Michigan and was born and raised in rural Michigan. Following service with the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, he purchased his first German Shorthaired Pointer. From one of his first breeding’s he selected a puppy which he trained and handled to its Dual Championship and CDX. Dual. Ch. Trailborn Mike (C.D.X) this dog was the only owner bred and handled dual champion with a C.D.X degree at the time, in the club.


Mr. Johnston also trained and handled two more German Shorthaired Pointer Field Champions and many others. Since 1952, Mr. Johnston had judged 150 trials, including four Open Nationals and five National Futurities, and was a Chairman for the 1974 AKC National German Shorthaired Pointer Futurity. Mr. Johnston also served as a director of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America. Breeding, training, and judging services were featured at Trailborn Kennels.
