          "Truth or Dare"
Written by: Melissa Mortimer and Jana Veverka
          Directed by: Jimmy Kaufman
          Aired on Nickelodeon: August 20, 2000 at 8:00 p.m.

My Overall Opinion of the Episode:
This is one of the few episodes that highlight the friendship between Caitlin and Annie. It would have been great to see their friendship grow in later episodes. However, Julianna Enciu, the actress who plays Annie, only appears in one more episode after this one.

          Jeremy Foley -- Griffen Lowe
          Ken Tremblett -- Jim Lowe
          Stephen Warner -- Brett Stevens

          The Music:

          Episode Summary:
Annie considers Caitlin to be the closest friend that she has in High River. Annie wants to spend the weekend with Caitlin at the ranch. Caitlin says that it is okay, but she is hesitant about it because she is not used to having a friend. She thinks that Annie wants something from her. Meanwhile, Griffen coincidentally invites Brett to spend the weekend at the ranch. After Brett and Annie arrive at the ranch, they begin to ignore Caitlin and Griffen. Griffen gets jealous because he likes Annie and he thinks that Brett is trying to steal Annie from him. Griffen tries to get Annie's attention by pretending to choke on an olive, but it doesn't work. Meanwhile, Caitlin gets jealous of Annie because Annie is spending a lot time with Brett and because Annie keeps talking about Janet, a girl who was Annie's best friend where Annie used to live. Caitlin, Annie, Griffen, and Brett begin to play a game of "truth or dare." Caitlin uses the game as an opportunity to strike out at Annie. Annie is blindfolded and led to the barn where she is scared with various things. Caitlin also puts liver in her hand. Annie is upset and shouts to Caitlin, "I think you're really mean! No wonder you don't have any friends!" She steals Brett's ATV (a four wheel all terrain vehicle) and rides off into the pitch black night. Caitlin gets a flashlight and rides into the darkness on Bandit (her horse) to find Annie. Annie has an accident and flips the ATV. Caitlin finds Annie. Annie and Caitlin exchange some angry words, as do Brett and Griffen. In the end, however, they all work out their differences.

          Episode Highlights:
          1. Brett and Griffen begin to fight after Caitlin and Annie are gone. Griffen says, "You wanted to play that stupid game so you could kiss Annie! That didn't happen, did it?" Brett responds, "Do you think Annie likes you? Because she doesn't! She just feels sorry for you!" Brett tells Griffen that his attempt to get Annie's attention by choking on an olive was a bad idea. He says, "Since you seriously can't attract girls, why not settle for their pity?!" Griffen is so angry that he asks Brett to leave. However, Brett can't leave because Annie has his ATV. Brett and Griffen light a fire as it starts to snow. Griffen asks, "Did you mean that? No girl would like me?" Brett says, "No. I said it because I was jealous. You got a lot more going for you than I do. Girls like guys with brains. Jocks don't always rule, man."

          2. Annie crashes the ATV and Caitlin rushes to help. However, they end up arguing instead. Caitlin accuses Annie of only wanting to come over so that she can spend time with Brett. Annie denies it. Caitlin asks, "Is this what you did to Janet every time there was a guy around? Ignore her?" Annie responds, "No! Janet's my best friend! She was really cool and really fun! I thought you were like that, too. Boy, was I wrong!" Caitlin says, "Yeah, because I'm not Janet and I don't wanna' be her!" Annie walks off in anger leaving Caitlin alone with the flipped ATV. Annie, however, comes back while Caitlin is attempting to set the ATV on its wheels. Annie says, "You don't know anything about being a friend!" Caitlin says, "Well, if it's this much work, who needs one?" Annie then softens up quite a bit and, in a more gentle tone of voice, says, "You do. And so do I." Together, they set the ATV back on its wheels.

          3. After putting the ATV back on its wheels, Caitlin admits that she never thought she could have a friend. Annie asks, "Why?" Caitlin says, "Because there's stuff inside of me I can't imagine sharing with anyone." Annie responds, "I'm like that, too. But even sharing the small things can be the way people become friends."
