NOTES
At age seven, Prince first began picking out melodies to popular songs o the family piano. The son of a Minneapolis-area bandleader (his mother was the band vocalist), Prince was an accomplished guitar player at 13. by 14 he had mastered drums. He learned to play 26 instruments while still in his teens.
Prince was 12 years old when he formed his first band, Grand Central (later changed to Champagne), a popular atrraction at Minneapolis parties and high school dances. After five years, Prince left the group to begin a solo career, recording a five song demo. He was offered contracts by severa companies but, with the exception of Warner Bros. Records, none could let him produce his own album. After hearing a second, three song demo, Warner Bros. agreed to give Prince complete artistic control and in mid-1977 the artist began work on his debut album, For You.
Prince , his second album, was produced, arranged and composed by its namesake, with Prince playing all the instruments and singing all the parts. The LP featured his first hit single, "I Wanna Be Your Lover," a Number One R&B hit and a Top 20 pop hit. A follow-up "Why You Wann Treat Me So Bad?," was another chart item for the verging superstar.
