Companion Gallery

Placing puppies in a good home is the most difficult part of breeding dogs. I have been so blessed by the puppy owners I have met over the years. This page is a "thank you" to them and a place to showcase their beloved companions.

I thought it best to devote one page to each litter. I would like to include every puppy from every litter, but I have not always been diligent about photographing my babies and not all of my puppy owners have sent me grown up photos (hint, hint).

First litter: Rowan x Caitlin
Three boys whelped July 9, 1990. These are Rory's brothers.

The handsome young lad holding Mickie is my nephew Jeremy.

Cathy Pickard repeated this breeding and whelped two boys:

Joey

Joey made his home with the Hill's. Here is their tribute to Joey after his passing:

IN MEMORY OF JOEY OUR BELOVED SHELTIE
BORN IN APRIL 1992
DIED APRIL 12, 2004

We lost our Joey today due to heart failure. His heart just gave out. He simply lay down on his side, stopped breathing and very peacefully went to sleep for the last time. Joey was a wonderful companion, and a member of our family. We loved him very much. We will sorely miss him. We first saw our Joey at the Cobo Hall Dog Show in the spring of 1993. We had walked around the whole area looking at all the dogs. Were we planning to get another dog? Not really, at least that is what we told ourselves. After we lost Ginger our mixed mutt, we didn’t think we wanted to get another dog. We were at the last row of show dogs walking down the aisle looking and admiring the Shelties. They were so beautiful and sweet looking. We stopped to talk to a young woman who was showing her shelties that day. One of her dogs was looking at us with the most expressive eyes. We found out that Kathy, his owner and trainer, had been showing Joey at the Dog Shows in the “Puppy Class”, but he had not been winning very many ribbons. I knew then that we had to ask her if she would consider selling Joey. Kathy said she would to the right owners. The following day, I told Fred, “I want that dog”! The rest is history. We were approved by Kathy and picked Joey up on a sunny day that spring from his home up in the north of Michigan. He had just passed his first birthday. Kathy, his owner, looked so sad as we drove away with Joey. I sat in the back seat with him all the way home so he wouldn’t feel too frightened about leaving his family. Once we got him home, it didn’t take long before we were completely bonded. We discovered he was very talkative, like most Shelties, as we discovered. What a sweet nature he had. He never displayed an aggressive side. He loved to travel in the car with us and sleep in our bed. There will never be another dog just like him. Some day we might love another dog, but it would never take Joey’s place in our hearts.
