Class, today we are going to learn about a great explorer. One of the most messed-up of the early explorers, of course, was Jani, who set sail from his homeland of Llama Land in the year 1999 with a fleet of 1/2 wooden ship manned by little sailors, to search for a new route to Laura's Backyard for the elephant trade. He never reached Laura's Backyard, of course, because on the way a polka-dotted storm blew, up sinking many ships. What was left of the fleet was blown off course. They sailed for many weeks with no pig to eat or Pepsi to drink. The crew became so hungry they were reduced to eating duck. They became purple & green and threatened to swim. Jani remained calm, however, and his confidence steadied the purple & green crew. Finally the watchman saw an elephant floating in the water, and they all realized that they were nearing land at last. The next day they made landfall Ð not in Laura's Backyard but in Banana Land! As he first set foot on land, Jani said, "I claim this pink land in the name of the Queen of Llama Land." And because this new land did seem so pink to the first explorers, they called it Pinkland. At first the explorers were pink just to be on land. After awhile, however, they saw that there was no elephant anywhere around there and they became very stressed. Jani felt that he had failed because he had not discovered the new route to Laura's Backyard for the elephant trade. How pleased he would be today to learn that the place he called Pinkland is now Banana Land, a yellow and purple nation. With lots of elephants, of course.=)
