ETHAN EMBRY BIOGRAPHY Ethan Embry (Randall) was born on June 13th, 1978. While growing up in Huntington Beach, California, the acting bug started to bite and by the age of 10, Ethan had landed his first movie role. He starred as Steve in the 1991 Albert Brooks comedy 'Defending Your Life.' From there, his next film would have him playing a lead role in the movie 'Dutch', a comedy about a rich bratty kid who is forced into going home from school with his mothers "working class" boyfriend. The critics had a field day with the movie but Ethan came out unharmed. 'Dutch' was able to give Ethan a bit of a career boost which lead to roles opposite Lauren Bacall in 'All I Want For Christmas' and Disney's 'A Far Off Place', with Reese Witherspoon and Ethan's real life sister, Kessia. 1995 brought the movie 'Empire Records'. Ethan played Mark, a goofy record store employee. The movie was a box office nightmare but a big hit with fans. The role of Mark is still a big favorite with his fans. Ethan's co-star, Liv Tyler would also become one of his closest friends. n 1996 Ethan Randall became Ethan Embry. Ethan's grandfather was adopted and became a Randall but his biological last name was Embry. It was out of respect that Ethan decided to change his last name. During the same year as the name change, Ethan was cast in Ridley Scott's shipwreck film 'White Squall' about a group of boys on a school boat where they learn about becoming men and the reality of life and death. Ethan's big break came one year later, he was cast as one of The Wonders in Tom Hanks's directorial debut 'That Thing You Do'. The film was a huge success with both critics and fans. 'That Thing You Do' also gave Ethan another chance to work with his friend Liv Tyler. Around the time of the movie, Liv introduced Ethan to Heather Porcaro, the two have been dating since. Next up would be 'Vegas Vacation' (the National Lampoon's series) where he was cast as the last incarnation of the character Rusty Griswold. The film was a flop but Ethan managed to emerge unscathed. 1998 has been a big year so far for Ethan. First came the release of 'Dancer, Texas Pop. 81'. The film wasn't widely released but it did manage to snag some very positive buzz and reviews. After filming 'Dancer, Texas Pop. 81', Ethan read for the lead role in Tristar's 'Can't Hardly Wait', a modest sized movie that was written and would be directed by first time directors Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont. The studio didn't think Ethan could pull off the role which made him want the role even more. So after various meetings, they finally cast him in the lead. In the film he plays Preston Meyers, a love-struck fool that has been pining over Amanda Beckett (Jennifer Love Hewitt). The film didn't do the buisness that the studio was expecting but it was a was a semi-hit. Next up would be a cameo in David Nutter's 'Disturbing Behavior'. The producers of the film decided they wanted to shorten the movie so unfortunatly, most of Ethan's cameo was deleted. Actually, he is on screen for less than a minute. Ethan has a movie coming up soon titled 'Taken'. The film is also very special to Ethan because he not only stars, but he is also producing the film with his 'White Squall' friend and co-star, Jeremy Sisto.
