the kid brother collective started in may of 97 in flint, michigan by
four guys with a lot of spare time. formed from the nucleus of two previous
projects, spit and smatch, the collective deviated from former sounds to
come up with what has been jokingly dubbed "community college rock" by locals.
after a summer of writing songs with the collective, bassist bill sirl
left the group and long time friend chris everson hopped on. their first
show opening for boy sets fire went off without a hitch, and from that point on
the lineup was set.
a studio session was slated for that december, and after a week or so
of sleeping in strange places, a seven song ep emerged and was self released.
It documented the previous year's work, and in turn, clinched the "golden
hanky award" according to the detroit band king for a day. a few small tours
later the collective once again returned to the studio for a split seven inch
with deep elm records' pride and joy, new york city's camber.
and now the release of "never trust yourself," a three song cd single
put out once again by doom nibbler records, hit stores in january of 2000.
recorded by long time engineer and friend, j faith, "never trust yourself"
shows their growth from a young band with potential to a well rounded
composition.
a full length is planned for mid summer of 2000, along with a few
small tours and lots of root beer. as always in this business, things change very quickly, so keep in touch to know the latest news.
