Basic Camp

The "Basic Course" refers to the freshman and sophomore level ROTC classes. There is no commitment for the first two years of the program if you don't have an ROTC scholarship. These classes cover subjects like military history, traditions and organizations, and national defense. There is a strong emphasis on leadership development during these first two years. This offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands on leadership skills while in college.

The basic course is designed to cover the basics for anyone who is interested in becoming an Army officer. It is also designed to be FUN. Some of the activities that we participate in here at FSU are:

At FSU the basic course is offered as Military Science 101, 1021, 197, 201, 202 and 293. These classes can be added as electives at any time during your college stay. If you demonstrate the potential to become an Army officer and meet the physical and scholastic standards, you are eligible to enroll in the Advanced Course where you will receive instruction in management, tactics, professionalism and ethics, and further your leadership development skills.
