...HELLO... My name is Mary and I reside in Scottsville New York. I am the mother of the beautiful girl you see pictured above... I am sure that most people are aware that there is a problem with the HMO's in this country... I am going to tell you what happened to our family and I pray to GOD that this will never happen to you, your family, or anyone you know. On February 3rd, 1997, my youngest daughter went to our Primary Care Physician complaining of pains in her chest, shortness of breathe and dizziness. They told her to breathe into a brown paper bag for the dizziness. They then sent her home. On February 4th, 5th and again on the 7th, she returned to the Doctor's with increasing symptoms, severe pain in her back, her lips and her cuticles were blue. ~NO TESTS WERE DONE ON HER~ On February 8th at 8:00 PM, she started crying that she was very ill. At 8:30 PM she was semi-consious. I tried calling the Doctor but it was a Saturday night and I had to contact his answering service. They continued to put me on hold. At 8:45 I called the hospital and was told I couldn't bring her in without confermation from her Doctor.... I tried again to contact her Doctor and was AGAIN put on hold. At 9:10 PM I called 911 and they dispatched an ambulance. At 9:12 PM she screamed that her back hurt and she thought she was dying, she then lasped into a coma.... My husband rushed down the stairs and tried doing CPR on her while I was on the phone again with 911. They pronounced my beautiful daughter DEAD at 10:45 PM... You have no idea what it is like to watch a daddy trying to breathe life back into his little girl.... The devistation that has happened to our family.... On February 10th, it was told to me by a Professional in her Doctor's office that they couldn't justify sending her for Diagnostic tests to find out what was wrong with her. Her autopsy report came back that she had pneumonia in her right lung and a blood clot in her left. This was a SENSELESS death!! All for the sake of... MONEY! Unfortunately this isn't the end to this story... Four months and 11 days after the death of our beautiful daughter, we lost her daddy (my husband). He couldn't stand losing his little girl and died from the proverbial broken heart... PLEASE PLEASE Don't let this happen to someone that you love or someone that you know. Contact your local Congress person, Senators, anyone that can make the change. No amount of money was worth my daughter's life. Thank you so much for listening. May GOD bless each and everyone... Please dont take this poem or reproduce it in any way without prior written permission from the owner... Thank you Mary Cries Her eyes fill with tears As she fights with her will The battle of emotion To have her words heard Her loss acknowledged Her pain not in vain, but to an end. An end that will save other mothers Other wives The same tears. Mary cries for her child For the needless loss For the beauty of a rose Plucked from life before reaching full bud She fights, remembering The ache in her heart remains But she bravely puts it aside To help other mothers, other wives Avoid the tears she shed, and sheds still. Pushing for reform For justification, and perhaps For someone to tell her, ìMary, I am sorry your child died.î Mary cries for her child For the loss of her love Of her lifeís flower Uprooted before it could grow to completion. She lives as best she can The shade of her child and her husband Dead too, from a broken heart Standing at her shoulders She works too hard, too long As she tries to send them to heaven Where they already sing with the angels. But she can only feel them at her side. Mary cries for her life For the loss of her dreams The waste of her most loving labor Snatched from her by uncaring hands. Dedicated to my dear friend Mary, who fights daily for HMO reform to spare others the pain of the needless death of a child. 12/21/1998 By MorganLFy © 1998 MorganLFy (All rights reserved) Dear Mary, I reside in Rochester and I have visited your page in memory of your daughter a few times. Please accept these awards on behalf of my daughter Brittany who was also killed, age two. Please visit our site also. http://www.geocities.com/heartland/estates/9520/index.html This is another poem that was written for Mary By a lady who signed our guestbook Please do not take it with out written permission The Loss of a Child What is the life of one child worth, a sweet, simple child loved since birth? Where is the justice, this child to deprive the simple treatment to keep her alive? Our voices cry out against a greed written rule, for reform in the system that could be so cruel. And for all of the lives that are lost over greed, We cry out a warning, my brethren to take heed. Ban together in this fight to share, Lest next, it be your child that is refused care. We cry out in anguish for the loss of a child, the anger grows deep and is more than mild. Who has the right to determine the fate of a child in this country of supposed free state? Where is the justice? With my whole being I cry, at whose greedy feet shall this blame lie? With a grief that burns deep and anger so wild, we demand intervention on behalf of a child! Where is their shame? I see no saving grace . . . How dare they look away from a mother's face when her child has been taken in such terrible disgrace.
