My Winning Pokémon Team
Sorry, but I cant just give away my team. It is confidential information. I dont want any added competition.
Before you go, however, I can give you many useful tips. Follow these and you should have a good team.
- Remember, there are many possibilities. No one team is the very best. Even the "Gym Leaders" can't break the rules.
- Figure out what cup you are going to compete in.
- TMs and HMs are essential to a winning team. In Pika Cup you can teach low leveled Pokémon advanced moves like Blizzard and Psychic. Go to the codes page to find an easy way to duplicate TMs.
- Find out what Pokémon are availible for the cup you are competing in. This is where a player's guide comes in handy. You can see when each type evolves and if it is soon enough to fit that kind into your cup level limits. All Pokémon are availible in Prime Cup. Always use evolved Pokémon if possible. They are better in almost every possible way. Also remember that some Pokémon cannot be caught below your cup's maximum level limit.
- Ok, you have narrowed your possibilities down to the most advanced Pokémon possible within the limits of your cup. Next?
- You must now predict what will be the most common opposing pokémon. If you already know then that is all the better. It depends which cup you are competing in. For example, many beginners compete in the Pika Cup. This includes the little ones that will use the cute but crappy Pikachu. However, if you have water or flying types, "Mr. Crappy" becomes a real threat. In the Prime Cup, almost everyone will use Mewtwo.
- You may want a player's guide for this. There are certain Pokémon that can learn a variety of useful and powerful moves, even ones of different types! This is where your TMs and HMs come in, because most of these moves aren't learned on their own. For example, it is possible to teach Gyarados Fire Blast, Thunder, or Blizzard. Beware that most of these Pokémon are water-types it seems, so include one Pokémon of a different type to keep from having one big weakness. Remember the popular Pokémon? Focus mainly on defeating any pesky ones there are.
- When in Prime Cup, you will very often see Mewtwo vs. Mewtwo, each with annoying Recovers. Most players guides say ghost and bug Pokémon are powerful against psychic. This is not true because almost all Pokémon of those types are also half poison, and psychic is strong against poison. Also, no bug or ghost atacks are very strong, where as psychic attacks are. The facts are that the only type that stands a chance type-wise is another psychic. You might say that then the opponent has just as much chance as winning as you, but there is a way to gain the upper hand. Mewtwo is one of those special Pokémon that can learn attacks of other types. Since psychic is weak against psychic, teaching a Mewtwo Blizzard, for example, will give you an advantage. Why? Because they will damage you with a weakness (psy. vs. psy.), and you will damage him normally (ice vs. psy.). Another tactic for "Recover" battles is using Toxic. Use Toxic on the opponent and the use Recover even if you are only slightly damaged. The Toxic will eventually cause so much damage to the opponent that even Recover will not fully heal it. Lastly, Ice Beam seems to work rather well at freezing Mewtwos. Blizard supposedly works just as good but it doesn't. Just freeze Mewtwo (one or two attacks should do it) and then blast away with whatever other attacks you have.
- Last but not least, use creativity. Maybe you can think of something that I didn't.
- NEW!!!: Now that Pokémon Yellow is out, new strategy is possible!!! How??? Well, supposedly in Yellow different pokémon can learn different moves, and can evolve at different levels. This means you can use pokémon that evolve at a higher level in Red and Blue but evolve at a lower level in Yellow. This may let a pokémon fit into a Cup that it would not normally be able to fit into. Also, with pokémon able to learn different moves than usual in Yellow, different potential pokémon may appear, especially since you can trade and teach, and then trade back!!!
