The ETE Great Lakes Chapter at the Great American Train Show

On January 15 an 16 the ETEGL had their second public showing of their modular layout, again at the Novi Expo Center here in Detroit. Again, Kurt Miska, Stew Rydman, Jim and Anders Nieters and I were the "co-conspiritors". The layout went up very quickly, so we had trains running the night before the show opened. The show was a blast! Everyone who stopped by was very complimentary regarding the layout. The catenary was a big hit, too!

Anders Nieters expertly manages the controls to the layout. To his left sit the four transformers- two for the two loops of track, and two to operate the catenary. To Anders' right you can see the seperate transformer Stew Rydman installed on the Rydman/Klein freight depot module for shunting (switching) operations.

A couple watch as the TEE traverses the Swiss module on the layout. The elevations were made using sheets of inch-thick styrofoam.

Jim Nieters patiently helps a youngster operate the electromagnetic crane. I built a small hand-held controller for the crane so visitors to the layout could operate it. This proved to be a huge success, as kids were lined up to load and unload the traincar into the truck...
