Red Wings are #1:
The ReDwInGs are great. This Team now has fighters, scorers, and everything needed for a Stanley Cup team, which the Detroit Redwings are the 1997 Stanley Cup Champions. After 42 years they won it and they deserve it with their win over the Philadelphia Flyers in a 4 game sweep! The Redwings are awesome. Every line of the Redwings can fight, scate, and put the puck in the net which every Stanley Cup winning team needs. The 1996-1997 Detroit Redwings is probably one of the best all around teams in the history of the game of hockey.

The Stars:
The entire 1997 Red Wing team has talent. Whether it's fighting (which is Joey Kocur's department of expertise) or scoring which anyone on the wings can do especially the Captain: Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan, Sergei Fedorov, and others that use great speed like Chris Draper.

The Platyers' quotes:

Trent Klatt: "We watched the (Wings) Colorado series. The (Wings) just dominated them totally. We knew they were a great team. We have to try to get back on track and start doing something here."

DOUG BROWN: "We're excited yet still focused. Hopefully we'll get some rest and get ready to go again. The score wasn't indicative of what was happening out there. Vernie had to make some big saves."

DARREN McCARTY: "We've won 3 games. We haven't done anything yet. If you look back at the last series a lot of people out there were talking a lot of hype. Colorado gave it to us pretty good (in game 5). We've been a team that has been able to learn from it's past mistakes. We know that the fourth one is the toughest to get. We are going to have to come out with our best effort of the year."

MARTIN LAPOINTE: "Teams can't push us around anymore. We have got some big guys in here. We're big enough and strong enough to take care of ourselves. That's what we're doing. We have got a lot of speed. We know that Philly has a pretty big team. We have to make sure that we're on their heals."

Eric Lindros: "There are no dropped heads around here. The word "quit" has never entered the locker room. The pressure is on them with a 2-0 lead. They are supposed to win it. We play well on the road. We expect to do good things in Detroit."

Karl Dykhuis: "We know Vernon is beatable. We just haven't done the job quite as well as we hoped. I think we were a little better organized tonight. The first game was tough on us. We definitely have to improve to get a win."

BOB ROUSE: "Brendan (Shanahan) is great. He's been looking forward to this kind of game all year. He's been great in the playoffs and we can't say enough about him. We have a bunch of guys coming up big right now. That's usually a good sign."

NICK LIDSTROM: "We are a better playoff team. We have to battle harder this year. We have some bigger wingers. (Guys like Sandstrom, Kocur and Shanahan) are the type of players you need in the playoffs."

DARREN McCARTY: "We are very confident in each other. The more important (the games) get, the more fun it is. We have a good skating team. We want to skate and put pressure on the defense."

DAVE LEWIS: "Brendan, what a game he had. He's got those quick hands. It was nice to see those shots go into the net. We have two wins right now. We are going back to the Joe to get number three. But like they say, one one at a time is good fishing."

MARTIN LAPOINTE: "We have not won anything yet. The guys are really focused and composed. That's been the major key right now. That's why we are winning."

BRENDAN SHANAHAN: "I think that pressure is part of pro sports. It's better to face pressure than to not face it at all. You have to have that kind of mentality to be a professional athlete. That is what we are trained to do. I think to a man we all know that everybody is responsible for the success."

KIRK MALTBY: "It is something you dream about as a kid growing up to play in the NHL and to get a chance to win the Stanley Cup. I am just having a lot of fun with it. When we are on the ice it's all business, but outside of that we are relaxed and having a bit of fun."

MICKEY REDMOND: "I think it was a combination of Philadelphia not playing their game and Detroit not letting them. Philadelphia can play a lot better. It's very similar to playing the Devils two years ago. No one wanted to give them any credit. We are going to have a much better game on Tuesday. Detroit has their game plan and they aren't going to change it. The Flyers are the ones that are going to have to change and adjust. The Wings will continue to do what they have to do but they will do it better."

DOUG BROWN: "Both Hextall and Snow are excellent goalies. We just have to keep shooting and hope for the best."

DARREN McCARTY: "We just worry about ourselves. We want to play in their end. It's only been one game which isn't much. We have to come out and play hard. We have to play the best game we have played all year."

KRIS DRAPER: (commenting on his stay in Philadelphia) "Since we have been here I have seen a movie. About six guys last night went out to a nice dinner. I have not had a Philly steak sandwich yet but a few of the guys have."

AARON WARD: "Our game plan is to generally attack no matter who is in net. We play the same no matter who is in front of us."

KIRK MALTBY: (commenting on the "Grind Line") "When Joey came, we got more ice time as a line. Scotty just realized what we were capable of."

SERGEI FEDOROV: "Philadelphia is going to try and come out with more physical pressure. We still want to play our hockey. We will try to play a tight checking defensive game."

BRENDAN SHANAHAN: "We can't control what they do but we can control what we do and how we play. We know there is a lot of work ahead of us."

VLADIMIR KONSTANTINOV: "This team is better prepared than we were two years ago against New Jersey."

MIKE VERNON: (commenting on Garth Snow replacing Ron Hextall) "It's a team game. You are here to win hockey games. The coach makes decisions and you have to live with it."

Terry Murray: "I don't think that (Detroit's) speed is an area that I am concerned about at all. What I'm concerned about is the way we played as a team. This is as poor as we have played in a month and a half. (Detroit) plays well defensively. They have got three to four guys back."

SCOTTY BOWMAN: "Two goals out of them (Kocur-Draper-Maltby) and they were a presence every time they were on the ice. We have to play more in their end if this series is going to work out for us. (Larry) Murphy took a lot of checks, he gets to the puck and when he gets it on the stick it is generally a good play. Obviously, our team feels a lot better about themselves this year than they did two years ago"

STEVE YZERMAN: "I know the Flyers can play stronger than they did tonight. It is a good start to the series, but it is just getting underway and winning the first game isn't necessarily an indication of the way this series is gong to go"

KIRK MALTBY: "We were able to get up early and it helped us in the long run. We have proved that we won't back away. We are going to play our system."

MARTIN LAPOINTE: "It's only one game. We had a good team effort. Overall it was a good game."

TOMAS SANDSTROM: "We have to keep control of the puck as much as we can. We have to keep the puck away from them."

AARON WARD: "We could say that the home ice advantage doesn't play a role in a series. But this victory puts the pressure on the Flyers to try to get the advantage back. We just saw some oppurtunities and jumped on them."
