"Brianne! Brianne!" Justin called as he let himself into her room. Brianne grabbed her shirt off her bed and held it in front of her.
"Jesus, Justin! Can't you knock!"
Justin turned around so his back was to her."Sorry, it was an accident."
His face turned red. It was one of the few times he had ever been embarrassed in front of her, but when he walked in on her in shorts and a bra….
"Just don't let it happen, ok?" Brianne said.
"Ok, can I turn around now?" He questioned.
"Oh ya! So why are you so excited anyway?"
"Well, you know Nikki right?"
Brianne rolled her eyes at his idiotic question. "You've only been going on and on about her for like six months, I'm pretty sure I know who she is."
"ok, well… I was in the parking lot at the store today and I noticed her pulling in. She came over and said hi and we were talking and stuff…Well, I finally go the nerve up to ask her out."
Brianne's heart stopped. "What did she say?" she barely managed to get out.
A huge grin was on Justin's face. "She said yes!" he practically yelled, "Can you believe it? I finally got a date with Nikki!"
Brianne could see how happy he was. She forced her brightest smile. "Congratulations J, " she said dully.
Justin's smile faded.
"What?" Brianne asked defensively.
"Could you be a little less enthused about this " Justin replied sarcastically, "Would that be a problem?"
she studied his face. "I'm sorry. I just have a headache that won't go away, that's all" she lied, "I really am happy for you."
Somehow he didn't believe her, but why shouldn't he? She was his best friend, why wouldn't she be happy for him? Unless…nah, no Brianne.
He forced the thought from his mind. "Will you do me a favor?" he asked.
"What?"
"Will you come shopping with me? I want to a new outfit for the date."
"Yeah, sure. No problem. Let's go"

"Justin, you take longer to get dressed then most women do," Brianne said to the wooden door of the dressing room.
"I'm coming, I'm coming, geez," Justin replied as he opened the door.
He stepped out and Brianne had to practically pick her jaw up off the floor. He stood in front of her in a pair of black pants, a blue shirt, and black jacket. The ensemble accented his baby blue eyes. "Sooo….what do you think?"
"It- it-it looks good. I like it," Brianne stuttered.
He turned and studied his clothes in the three-way mirror. "Well, the question is will Nikki like it?"
Brianne rolled her eyes. "She's going out with YOU not your clothes Justin."
"I know I know. But I just want everything to be perfect."
"So, what are you going to do on your date?" Brianne asked not really interested.
"Well, I'm picking her up at seven and I already made reservations at Chez Pierre."
"Chez Pierre? That's like the most expensive restaurant in town."
"Yeah, but she's worth it."
"Sure she is," Brianne mumbled under her breath.
"What?" Justin questioned.
"Nothing…so are you getting the outfit or not?" she said.
Justin turned to face her, a dirty look on his face.
"What in the hell is your problem?" he asked accusingly. Before she could answer, he began to speak again. "You've had an attitude all damn day. If you didn't want to some with me then all you had to say so.You don't even seem happy for me, you are my best friend, you could at least pretend to be happy."
Brianne hung her head. She felt guilty. He was right. She should be happy for him. He was happy but why couldn't just happy with her? "I'm sorry J. I really am, but I told you I had a headache earlier and it still hasn't gone away. I am happy for you."
"It's ok. I'm going to change and pay for these so we can get outta here."

Nikki smiled at him. "It sounds like you care a lot about her." "Yeah, well, we've been friends since we were like two years old. She's like a sister, I love her to death. I don't know what I'd do with out her," Justin said lightly.
Nikki put down her fork and took a deep breath. "Justin…I don't think this is gonna work."
His eyes shot to hers. "what do you mean?"
"This..us….it's not going to work out."
"Why not?" he asked, kind of upset. "what happened?"
"nothing really 'happened', It's just that I've been listening to you talk about Brianne all night and--"
"I talked about her too much didn't I?" Justin interrupted. "A lot of girls get jealous because we're so close and --"
"Justin, you didn't talk about her too much and I'm not jealous. It's just so obvious that even though you're here with me, you're mind and your heart are someplace else, with Brianne."
He didn't say anything. He stared down at the table, letting her words register in his mind. Could he really be…in love…with Brianne? This was Brianne she was talking about. Brianne who was smart and funny and beautiful and sweet and .."oh my god," he thought. He looked back at Nikki who had a soft smile on her face. She reached across the table and gently touched his face. "Go to her," she said softly, "You know I'm right."
Justin stared at her for a few seconds, then returned the smile.
"Thank you, " he said quietly. He jumped up from the table and threw down enough money to cover the bill. "C'mon, " he said,"I'll take you home now."
Nikki got out of the car as Justin pulled up in front of her house. Before she closed the door, she leaned back in the car. "Good Luck Justin, just be honest with her."
He looked at her and smiled. "Thanks Nikki." And with that he pulled away. He shut off the lights and the engine as he sat in front of Brianne's house. He saw the dim light of the TV flashing inside of the house. He took a deep breath and ran his hands through his hair. What would he do if she said she didn't feel the same way? Then what? What would happen to their friendship? He felt the knot that was already in his stomach tighten. He took another extremely deep breath, exhaling loudly. Finally he go out of the car and hesitantly walked up to the front door of the large white house. He lifted his hand to knock but let it fall back to his side. He closed his eyes tightly and pressed his lips together. 'C'mon Justin. You can do this' he told himself. Hesitantly, he knocked softly on the door. After a few seconds, it opened revealing Brianne. "hey Justin," she said surprised. "what are you doing here? I figured you'd still be out with the oh-so-wonderful Nikki."
"Our date ended early…Can I come in?"
"Yeah, sure. I was just watching TV."
"What are you watching?" he asked , trying to act as normal as possible. They both sat down on the couch. "It's a movie called the Trojan War. It's about this guy who thinks he's in love with this girl because she's beautiful and popular. But by the end of the movie he realizes he's really in love with his best friend, who's always been in love with him. You should watch it sometime." she said. "And take notes," she added under her breath. "Yeah, I'll have to watch it.uot; He grabbed the remote off the table and switched off the TV.
"What are you doing? I was watching that!"
"You've already seen it, what does it matter?" he said as he turned and faced her.
"Justin --"
"Just let me talk ok?"
"OK"
He took both of her hands in his. She noticed how his hands were shaking. 'What's he doing?' she wondered.
"Bri," he began, his voice shaky. "I-I-wh--I don't really know how to tell you this, so I'm just gonna say it straight out" He took another deep breath. He closed is eyes. "I-I-"
"Justin what is it?" Brianne asked softly.
"I love you," he finally managed to say.
Brianne drew in a sharp breath at this shocking words. She couldn't believe what she had heard.
"W-w-hat?" she stuttered.
He forced himself to open his eyes and look at her. He saw her eyes brimming with tears.
"I love you," he repeated so quietly that she barely heard him. "I've fallen in love with you."
"I - I- wow," she didn't know what to say. "I'm speechless."
"Please say something. Tell me you love me too or tell me to leave and never come back, just say something," Justin begged. But she didn't. She didn't say anything because she knew that no words could express the emotions running through her. Instead, she slowly pulled him towards her. Their lips met in a soft but passionate kiss. The emotions overwhelmed them both. They both knew deep in their hearts, this is what they always wanted, but didn't always know.
