AARTYites traveled to West Bloomfield a few weeks ago to participate in some great Social Action! After arriving at Shir Shalom, one group traveled to Habitat for Humanity for a day of smelly, hard-nosed, cleanup of an old bowling alley. Another group traveled to COTS to prepare and serve food to the less fortunate. Following COTS, we went to a retirement home and made so great bonds with some really great residents. Everyone met back at Brett's house for a BBQ and a quick wrap-up before the wonderful program. We went on a scavenger hunt at Great Lakes Crossing and saw 'Entrapment' afterwards. We got back to Shir Shalom at midnight, had a wonderful Havdallah service (thanks to Rosie and Caryn), and slept. We concluded with a friendship circle and a wonderful feeling of fulfillment and satisfaction. This was a super event that we hope to do next year too!! Thanks to Brett Mountain, Stephanie Fidler, Alan Paberzs, and everyone else who attended the event, it was awesome!!
SA Kallah was a great weekend filled with tons of Social Action, great programs, and enlightening services. Friday night included dinner, along with a great program and service. On Saturday, 40 MSTYites went around Flint to nursing homes during the morning. After lunch, evreyone traveled to help repair a basment and/or help clean up a housing lot in a neighborhood in downtown Flint. That night. we traveled to the YMCA to swim or shoot hoops. It was tons of fun! That night also included a wonderful Havdallah service, and some classic movies such as Animal House and Monty Python's Life of Brian. On Sunday we left, but feeling good about ourselves and each other. Thanks to Marina and Sophia, the co-chairs, and to FLRTY for making this the best kallah of the year. See y'all at Spring!!
Boards Kallah was hosted by YFTI as MSTYites voted for the '99-'00 Regional Board. The Kallah was a smashing success and was a little bit sweeter for AARTY! The two candidates for AARTY, Rachel Beck for PVP and Adam Rosenwasser for RCVP, each won their respective positions! It was pretty emotional for some AARTYites, including SAVP Alan Paberzs who was seen crying 3 different times!! AARTY is proud of Rachel and Adam and we all wish them the best of luck next year.
Anyways, the kallah included four different services, all of them were beautiful. On friday night after services, we listened to 15 different speeches from the candidates. Then, everyone got together to participate in a cool mixer, and following that, we went with our host families to their houses for a night of little sleep and lots of fun. Saturday brought the LONG board meeting along with elections and a great 'Casino Tropicana' program at night. On Sunday, everyone gathered around for a friendship circle and left shortly afterwards. It was a fun and fulfilling weekend for all!!
Cookie-a-Thon '99 was a smashing sucess!! 25 AARTYites got together for a unforgetable experience. We all met at 730 for dinner and a mixer. Following Abe Morissons' wonderful service, we proceeded to bake cookies for the homeless and dance the night away. Afterwards, some fell asleep, others talked, and some watched The Breakfast Club in our way cool youth lounge. Everyone had a great time and went home tired, but satisfied. Cookie-a-Thon '00 will surely be a blast as well!!!
