Beginer Strategy
The biggest mistake
made by newbies and some
experienced players is that there decks are "top heavy"!
When i say top heavy I mean that you think bigger is
better and you dont have much cheap stuff. You say to
yourself "Well sure, anyone would rather use a Shivan
Dragon then a Ironclaw Orcs". Well thats a huge mistake.
Lets say your playing aginst someone with a lot of
cheap creatures and spells. Your playing with your
Serras and Segnier Vamps. Now they get some cheap
creatures out early and by the time you get your Serra
out you will already have 15 damage done to you. Now
15 points is hard to recover from.
Another common mistake that can be made by
any player but mostly the newbie is playing with 1/3
of your deck land. Now the reason everyone thinks
this is beacuse thats what WoTC told us in the rule
book. It is much better to play with 23-24 lands +
some other sources of mana like Mirage Diamonds etc.
Now this can be reduced or increased depending on the
type of deck you use.
A third common mistake is to play with LOTS of
cards. Its best to stick to or around 60 cards. You
ask why? Well Ill tell you. If your playing with 4
Jester Caps, now if you have 60 cards in your deck you
have a much better chance of drawing this key card
then if your playing with 70 cards or more.
You need to stick with your theam. Now this
rule effects all of us not just newbies. Lets saying
your playing a Red/Green speed deck. Now a lot of you
would be tempted to put a Icy Manipulater or Jesters
Cap in there just beacuse you own one. When you are
thinking of puting a card in your deck, Think to
yourself "What is my deck trying to accomplish"! For
instance if your playing a straight poision deck it
wouldnt be smart to throw in some Shivan Dragons
beacuse that would be the only thing in your deck
possible to kill by Dammage.
Well I hope this has helped everyone out! If I
get a good response from everyone ill do a new post
like this often. If you have any comments on what has
