WAIKATO VS NORTH HARBOUR

Day One, Sun 28 September 2008

For the first day of The Roller Mills Tournament Te Kuiti put on a stunner of a Spring day and Waikato showed that they are a real force to be reckoned with.
Putting all their training and hard work together it culminated in a spectacular performance beating North Harbour 27-14.
An all round solid performance Waikato showed great mobility across the paddock, A spot on kicking game, penetrating back play and awesome forward dominance.
North Harbour put up a good fight scoring 2 converted tries but it just wasn't enough
Against Waikato's 4 tries, 2 conversions and 1 penalty. Good game Harbour and good luck for the rest of the tournament.
Awesome stuff Waikato, you are doing so well. King Country tomorrow!

GO THE MIGHTY WAIKATO!

WAIKATO VS KING COUNTRY

Day Two, Mon 29 September 2008

After yesterdays victorious start Waikato had a tough game against King Country today. K.C. came on showing huge intensity, putting real pressure on us and with some early injuries (adding to yesterdays 2) Waikato had to work hard to keep them at bay.
Through grit and determination, some awesome hard hits (from both teams) great line breaking and again both back and forward mobility, we put on 3 tries, 2 scored by Blake Bolli and all converted by Delayne Ashby to take the win 21-0.
Great game King Country, good luck against Harbour tommorrow and Waikato, we are again very proud! Awesome stuff boys.
GO THE MIGHTY WAIKATO!

WAIKATO VS THAMES VALLEY

Day Three, Tue 30 September 2008

Game Three and with bodies feeling the effects of the last 2 games the boys were keen and raring to go against Thames Valley who proved to be a very competitive side.
Waikato however showed that they have a back line that can do damage from anywhere on the field and a hard working forward pack. Thames Valley played a tough game but we took the win 33-12.
Great game Valley and good luck for the rest of the tournament.
Waikato, I know I said it yesterday but you are making a whole lot of people real proud. Auckland East tommorrow boys, Go Hard and Go Well and its yours!
From this Auckland East girl, GO THE MIGHTY WAIKATO!

Note to all Waikato supporters coming to the games: Dont forget your cowbells and ring them as loud as you can! I have it on good authority that the boys love them and they really spur them on!

WAIKATO VS AUCKLAND EAST

Day Four, Wed 1 October 2008

Expected to be the toughest game yet Waikato met Auckland East and showed that we were a very capable team.
Playing a very strong defensive 1st half we went into half time trailing by 2 with Auckland East leading 5-3.
The 2nd half saw Auckland East stretch their lead by 3 with a penalty kick to a still very reachable 8-3 however in the last 15 minutes they ran in a couple of soft tries off the scrum for a final score of 3-22.
This should see us playing a semi final tomorrow against the Bay of Plenty, who along with Auckland East have had a major hold over the competition for the past few years.
Awesome stuff boys and go hard tomorrow!
GO THE MIGHTY WAIKATO!

SEMI FINALS - WAIKATO VS BAY OF PLENTY

Day Six, Fri 3 October 2008

After being beaten by The Bay of Plenty in a pre season match I know the Waikato boys were looking to settle the score and coming into the game after a BYE yesterday they were well ready to play some rugby!
A tight game from the start it became a battle of attrition, both teams giving it their all and defensively holding each other out, leaving both teams try less.
Waikato 1st 5, Delayne Ashby successfully kicking 2 penalties and our boys standing strong against a Bay last minute attack saw us take the win 6-0 and a place in The Grand Final against Auckland East tomorrow.
KIA KAHA, KIA TOA! Go Hard tomorrow boys and whatever the outcome We are all unbelievably proud of you all!
GO THE MIGHTY WAIKATO!

THE GRAND FINAL

THE GRAND FINAL - WAIKATO VS AUCKLAND EAST

Day Seven, Sat 4 October 2008

GRAND FINAL DAY and Waikato are facing Auckland East, (Winners of the competition for the past 3 yrs).
A match that was always going to be a tough one was made just that bit harder with a stomach bug running rampant through the Waikato squad but with real courage, guts and determination our boys ran out in their Waikato colours.
The sound of Auckland East's drums hopefully drowned out by the clanging of our cowbells, and did us proud!
Using another rugby clich`e it was definitely a game of two halves. Auckland East took the 1st scoring 3 tries but Waikato came back in the second scoring 2 tries, 1 conversion and a penalty to 1 Auckland East try, however it just wasn't quite enough for a final score of 15-29 to Auckland East.
Our boys held their heads high and are the proud SILVER MEDAL WINNERS OF ROLLER MILLS 2008 and so ended what has been a long, long road of hard work, commitment And sacrifice by all the boys, the coaches and their families, the management and their families and of course the boys families.
It has been an experience that I know they will remember in years to come and one I have been honoured to have been a part of.
I know that as parents we are ALL SOOOOO proud of the boys, of what they have achieved, of what they have had to do to get there but most importantly of the awesome team of young men that they are!
GO THE MIGHTY WAIKATO!

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Obviously first and foremost on behalf of the parents and the boys we would like to thank the coaches, Barrie Jennings and Keryn Ashby, we really appreciate the commitment that you and your families have made to coach the Waikato Roller Mills team, we hope that you have enjoyed it and the fruits of it as much as we all have and we wish you and your families all the best for the future.
Brian and Donna Verryt, Jaden's parents who stepped into the managers role at the VERY last minute due to unforeseen circumstances which left us without a manager a week out from tournament.
Thank you for stepping in and taking on a job that I think most of us didn't realize just how big it was and what it involved, you both did an awesome job and it is really appreciated, our team would have been at a huge disadvantage if you hadn't of stepped in when you did!
Matthew Verryt; Thanks for all the jobs that you helped your folks with as Managers of the team and for watching out for the boys.
The Richards-Coxhead Whanau; Thanks for helping out with the cooking and cleaning duties.
Nigel Hotham; Thank you for all your help with the team, for being our team Medic, for giving of your knowledge and guidance and for helping supervise our boys.
Trudi Gatland; thanks for organizing our skit it was hilarious, and to all the parents that were involved in the skit too, a BIG thanks!
The boys who made up the combination XVS that we played pre season from Hamilton Boys U14, Hamilton Boys under 50 kg, and others; thanks for coming and giving our boys a chance to have some game time before the tournament.
It was a big help. Thanks!
I hope I haven't missed anyone out, if I have I'm really sorry!
