My Sister's Keeper

Starring: Abigail Breslin, Cameron Diaz and Sofia Vassilieva

Year Made: 2009

The Basic Plot: Anna Fitzgerald looks to earn medical emancipation from her parents who until now have relied on their youngest child to help their leukemia-stricken daughter Kate remain alive (www.imdb.com)

What I Liked: That Sofia is an incredibly talented actress. I couldn't believe how well she portrayed a sick girl, but still a girl with dreams and love and goals. It was really sad to see her slipping away so rapidly. I also liked the way they stayed true to the story, hearing all the points of view of all the characters, not just focusing on one POV. True to the book, Sara's parts were memories of the past, so that was how we were able to look into how it was for them all as children, before and during Kate's initial sickness. I was impressed with how similar the movie was to the book, and of course, with all the music they played, it was sad and a tear-jerker. It was good because it made me realize some things about life.

What I Didn't Like: Well for anyone who read the book, they will understand why I got upset at the end, because the movie ends 100% opposite to how the book ends. I'm not going to say how, but it's just flip-side opposite, not even funny! They also didn't really explain Jesse very well and at the end, it talked about how he got his life back in order, but they never explained anything bad he had done, while in the book, he was a pyro, and blew a lot of places up, so it made sense. They also didn't make the future look very believable. They were trying to portray Abigail Breslin as an older girl in her twenties. Well it's hard to make an 11-year-old look that way, so I was thinking they should have just left that out, but oh well. It was a very sad ending, NOT THE BOOK'S ENDING AT ALL, but I suppose it was still alright for a movie. If you hadn't read the book, I think the movie would have been a lot better, but it was still a good watch and a good cry.

My Rating: 4/5
