Spain’s Beauty

Most people are torn for choice when it comes to the country to visit for their vacations or holidays. This is because there are so many stories about the best countries to visit and what they have to offer. But if you want to choose a country that has a little bit of everything you would want to see and experience during your vacation, I suggest you try Spain.

Spain is a hot holiday destination because of its beauty. Actually it has been rated to be the second most visited country worldwide. Besides the natural grounds and beautiful beaches, it has historic monuments and museums that encourage many tourists to go back for more. This European country is very large and is divided into regions. The most amazing thing is that each one of the regions has something to offer to its visitors.

Basque Country

This region has Vitoria Gasteiz as its capital and is made up of Vizcaya, Guipuzcoa and Alava provinces. It is quite interesting since it has its own language, as well as culture. The origin is still mysterious and the sports here are unique as well. The most popular sport that you may get a chance to learn about and engage in is Basqueball or Pelota Vasca.Currently, this region is the most industrialized of Spain. You will however find untouched natural grounds such as Guernica River’s magical landscapes and the Urdaibai, Urkiola and Valderejo natural parks.

There is a lot of fun to be had in these areas as you can enjoy riding, hiking and golf, as well as exciting mountain sports. The Cantabrian Coast is also quite an attraction although it’s very steep and rainy sometimes. The rain here is unique as it is very fine and goes by the name ‘txirimiri; a raincoat will come in very handy when visiting this area. The city of San Sebastian has wonderful beaches and resorts that were famous in the 19th century; the atmosphere here is cosmopolitan. The waters are very cool and relaxing making it very attractive to tourists.

Bilbao is the largest city in the region and the center of beautiful monuments, such as the Gothic Cathedral and the Guggenheim museum that was erected in 1997. The museum is outstanding with its limestone, titanium stones and façade of glass. For cultural festivals, make a point of visiting Vitoria Gasteiz province. There is a lot to be discovered in visiting the various regions of Spain. You will be mesmerized by the contrasting landscapes and structures as well as the climatic conditions.

Barcelona and its Districts

Unique Barcelona

This proud city is so popular among tourists because it radiates its own style; a unique one for Spain. The Gothic architecture, and the one typical for the XXth century combine with the architectural style of the contemporary buildings, the inviting shops both new and old, the innovative museums and the first class restaurants. Among the riches of Barcelona you will find the Roman ruins, as well as the modern contemporary architecture, with a sufficient dose of Gothic and modernist style (the Catalan Art Nouveau style). Great artists of the XXth century, like Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, or Antoni Tapies have their own museums dedicated to their lives and to their work.

The Districts

If you want to see everything that Barcelona has to offer you have to take it slowly, step by step, district by district. Start your journey with Barri Gotic. A walk here will take you through narrow streets, very evoking. These are the streets of the oldest district in Barcelona, with important monuments, such as the cathedral and the medieval palace, monuments that mirror the history of the city. The Barri Gotic district is famous for the Santa Maria del Pi Church, with its octogonal tower.

Go around the church in order to get to the Main Square, which is bordered by XVIIIth century buildings beautifully ornated, and admire the immense ”window with roses.” This window characterizes the entrance in the Gothic churches. The La Seu Cathedral is also located in Barri Gotic district. La Ribera is another district in Barcelona that deserves the tourists’ interest. The former residencial district hosts the Picasso Museum. It is also the place where you will find the very popular Gothic Church Santa Maria del Mar.

La Ramba is another district of Barcelona, where you will feel the spirit of the modern Barcelona. La Rambla is a district full of life and the most famous one in Barcelona. Its coffee shops, the comedians who entertain the tourists on the street, and the flower vendors will all create this unique charm of La Rambla. Last but not least on your list of sightseeing places is the La Sagrada Familia. The Cathedral is outstanding - absolutely breathtaking. You will definetely fall in love with it.

A Beautiful Holiday

If you choose Barcelona as your holiday destination, you will have an impressive experience; a beautiful one. You will have the type of experience that will never be forgotten. Enjoy Barcelona!

Cabo de Gata

The unknown beauty

Few people have heard of Cabo de Gata and even fewer visit it. This small part of Spain is so beautiful that you will think you are in paradise once you step onto its territory. A very precise itinerary will take you from a village famous for its crafts to the typical arid landscapes of Andalusia. A few stops in fishing villages will be enough to give you the opportunity to admire the mountains and the sea. Most of this region is part of Cabo de Gata Nijar Natural Park.

Starting the journey

Nijar is the starting point in this special journey. The village is famous for its crafts. It is a typical Almerian village, with the houses crowded on the slopes of the Sierra de Alhamilla. The top of the hill is dominated by an old church, dating back to the XVth century; the church has an impressive Mudejar ceiling. When you are in Nijar, you must not miss the Plaza de Mercado. From there you can go down the main street, which is crowded with shops that sell jarapas (carpets and blankets made of wool and cotton), ceramic objects and baskets made of rigid herbs. Just 12 kilometers away, the Cabo de Grata Nijar Natural Park has its gates open for the tourists.

The road will first take you through a low sierra, with vegetation that contains yucca, cactuses and olives. You will reach Bocca de los Frailes and, while there, take your time to visit the stone, igloo shaped ovens. The locals used them in the past to bake bread. Continue your journey until you reach Pozo de los Frailes; the beautiful mill deserves your attention. This mill is the first one out of the 95 that you will meet along the way. A few more kilometers on and you will be able to enjoy the sun on the Playa de los Genovesses.

Playa de Monsul, four kilometers away, is the southernmost point in Spain. This type of holiday definitely requires you to have your own car, or at least a driver’s license, but you won’t regret such an experience. If you want to see Spain at its purist, as the ancestors left it, go to Cabo de Gata. Your unique experience will make you understand this culture better; it will help you understand the traditions of Spaniards and why they fight so much to keep the old together with the new.

Castilla De La Mancha and the Lagoons of Ruidera

Tourism is a well known source of income in Spain. In this regard, the Spanish have always tried to improve areas with beautiful views, to develop new restaurants and other tourist attractions. Sagrada Familia, Santa Eularia, the Synagogues, and the Lagoons of Ruidera are only some of the beautiful places that you can admire while visiting Spain.

CASTILLA DE LA MANCHA

Once you have left behind the desert plains in the „La Mancha” region, two surprises will appear to you: Cuenca and Toledo. The bucolic hills and valleys of Extremadura lead you to historical towns like Caceres, Merida and Trujillo. This is a fertile territory between Madrid and Andaluzia. Apparently devoid of inhabitants, this region seems to be grayer than other parts of Spain, like Extremadura, Barcelona or Madrid. The biggest points of interest in Castilla de la Mancha are, without doubt, Toledo and Cuenca. Despite the fact that this area is totally devoted to tourism, it nevertheless keeps an affable and individualistic attmosphere.

THE LAGOONS OF RUIDERA

Ruidera is a small city in Ciudad Real, a region in Castilla de La Mancha. It has a small number of inhabitants and very poor resources, its  whole economy being based on tourism. The Lagoons of Ruidera are placed in the middle of the collection basin of the Alto Guadiana river. This fluvial area opens a large extention of about 4000 square kilometers, out of which 3772 square kilometers belong to the National Park (The Lagoons of Ruidera) . You can visit Ruidera via the national road N/340.

To continue visiting Ruidera and its lagoons, it is necessary first to go and see „The reception centre of the National Park” where you will find all you need in terms of information about this place.  Then go to the sorrounding water lagoons. „The Ray Lagoon” is the biggest in this complex. It is also the most attractive one, being full of restaurants, botanical gardens and amusement parks. Connected to the „Ryo Lagoon” through a small river, „Colgada Lagoon” is the second in terms of width.

The edge of this lagoon is very irregular and is almost 4 kilometers in length. ”Batana”, „Salvadora”, „Lengua”, „San Pedra”, „Tomatilla” or „Santo Morcillo” are other lagoons , each having its own unique characteristics, and you will be impressed by the beauty of these places where the water seems to be the most pure in the world. If you don’t have an entire week to discover this region of Spain, you can spend at least one day in this wonderful „Natural Park of Ruidera”.

Castilla-La Mancha

A Beautiful Territory

Castilla-La Mancha is a very fertile territory situated between Madrid and Andaluzia. Even though it is not the most interesting region in Spain, having flat terrain with very few people who live there, this is a very beautiful region with rural relishes. Castilla-La Mancha has two very interesting points of interest: Toledo and Cuenca.

Cuenca

Cuenca can be considered as the biggest surprise of Castilla-La Mancha. It is spectacularly situated on a cliff, between the Huenca and Jucar rivers. Cuenca is equally far from Madrid and Valencia, and it is very famous for its houses built on very abrupt slopes. They are called Casas Colgadas and you can see them very well from the Puente de San Pablo (San Pablo’s bridge).

One of these houses hosts the Museo de Arte Abstracto Espanol ( the Spanish Museum of Abstract Art), where the paintings of famous paintors such as Antoni Tapies and Antonio Saura can be admired by the tourists. On the other side of the bridge stays the Monasterio de los Paules. Just a few steps further you will find the Gothic and Renaissance Cathedral. Even though the cathedral has been built by combining two architectural types, the result is wonderful. Plaza Mayor is also a place where tourists enjoy  going. It is the scene of the processions that take place in the Bright Week, so it is a place especially loved by Christians.

Albacete

Albacete is isolated in the eastern part of the La Mancha region and it doesn’t have a lot of imposing monuments. But it is situated at the intersection of several roads, between the center of Spain, Valencia and Andalusia. However, you will find absolutely lovely vine crops there, that offer spectacular views. This is a city that once belonged to the Arabs, so their influence, with their culture, tradition and their customs has remained alive in the region.

They are the ones who brought here the art of creating knives, so you will be able to visit the Museo de la Cuchilleria (the Knives’ Museum). While here, also go to the Museo Arqueologico and to the Alcala del Jucar if you want to see a miniatural Cuenca; a village built in rock and dominated by a Moorish castle. The region will seem wonderful to you, once you give it a chance. It has a lot to offer, so your holiday will be a very pleasant one. Enjoy your stay!!!
