The "BOX" Method

Horse Training is an art and the trainer is an artist. In order to be a great artist you have to love what you do. You have to have the patience, knowledge and determination to work on the fine details to produce something great. Hello and welcome to Timberlodge Ranch Horse Training, my name is Beau Cunningham, founder of Timberlodge Ranch Saddles and Horse Training and my ideal method of training would start at birth. Only breed horses that are quiet, calm and have been trained themselves, get your hands on the foal by the second day after birth and handle him/her a little bit each day. Why not, get them halter broke and used to being handled right away. After a few weeks, saddle up the mare and go for a trail ride, let the colt follow you both around and see you ride, maybe even pony the colt around after a few weeks. Wean around six months, and put that colt right into training with 30 days of ground work to give them something to focus on (this would be a good time to geld the stud colts), then let them have a break. Bring them back in as a young yearling for a 30 day tune up and then again for 60 days as a long yearling, keep giving them breaks, turnouts and pasture time, and 30 days prior to their 2 year old b-day, bring them in and finish, whether it takes 30 or 90 days. This slow and easy method will make a great disposition in any horse and its easy on their mind and body. My Personal method of training of which I use is a system of communication in which I refer to as "THE BOX". I train alot of weanlings, yearlings and 2 year olds for customer's and I love what I am able to create. Its never to early or to late to start with a great foundation you can build upon for years to come. Beau
