The video app TikTok - the new hot thing for teens - has also arrived in Germany

TikTok is booming with lip-synchronized videos to chart hits - the most popular video formats in the network goes back to its predecessor, Musical.ly

Actually, it is a mobile social network - but in fact, the app is primarily known for 15-second video snippets: We are talking about TikTok, an app from China, which is currently in demand especially among young people around the globe, like me at the weekend at WiWo.de explained in detail.

According to figures from British market researcher AppAnnie, last year TikTok has become the fourth most downloaded app of the year, ahead of Instagram's photo network and Messenger Snapchat.

TikTok is also enjoying a growing popularity in Germany: According to market researcher PrioriData, local users downloaded the app 8.8 million times last year:

And as recently leaked internal TikTok figures show, 4.1 million Germans use the app a month - open an average of eight times a day and spend 39 minutes on the platform.

Incidentally, TikTok is also based on the very popular lip synchronisation app Mucial.ly, which was acquired by TikTok parent Bytedance from Beijing in November 2017 for a billion dollars - and merged with its own TikTok offer in August 2018.

Even today, video clips on chart hits are one of the most popular video formats in the network - and the basis of the TikTok boom, especially among teenagers and young adults .
