ASSIGNMENT #3

1. What is the genre and "high concept" of the game?

            Genre- simulation

High Concept- to build and design a city in full working order.

2. In what way does the game design consider "player empathy"?

The designer shows player empathy in the form of the overhead toolbar which provides an easy fix to any problem the player might have. There are many step by step processes available to help accomplish any task.

3. Explain the types of "feedback" that are provided during game

play.

Some of the feedback shown in the game is the noises that are made during the game when roads are built, buildings etc… Also if something is put in place like a school for example but no road to it then and curser pops up to notify you.

4. In what sense is the player "grounded" by the game interaction?

It is hard to feel grounded by the game because you are continually building a city to your liking, but it is hard to achieve your overall goal of designing a successful working city.

5. List and explain at least 3 options that a player has on a moment to-

moment basis.

One option is to continually build new things; another option is to prepare your city for any disasters that might happen. A third option is being a citizen I your city to get an idea of how your city is working.

6. What aspects of game play seemed tedious or unnecessary?

There weren’t very many options to the game probably because it was te demo version but if I had to pick one thing I didn’t like that would be the plumbing and little things like that you had to develop.

7. What features of the game helped you feel immersed enough that

you were compelled to continue playing?

Nothing in the game really compelled me to play continuously. I felt this game was kind of tedious and it was too much for me.

8. What aspects of the game were enjoyable?

I didn’t really enjoy the game because I enjoy more sports games but I did like that you could be a person in your city and cruise around.

9. What aspects of the game are educational?

I guess the whole game was educational because the player gets a chance to see how much work and thought goes into building an entire city.

10. How would you improve the game design?

I thought that the graphics of the game could be improved but I had the older version so they could be better in the new one but I also felt that there were too many options to play with.

11. What type of person would buy this game?

I think someone who wanted to become an engineer or something like that would be a good consumer for this game. Maybe someone with a big imagination would like to play this game.
