Background

Stanley Tollman was born in 1930 in South Africa. At 19, he left university in order to help his parents run "The Palace Hotel" a small inn in Johannesburg, in which Tollman managed the restaurant. From there, he bought and ran The Nugget Hotel, with his wife Bea Tollman, who ran The Colony Restaurant, the hotel's premiere food venue. After this, he built the Tollman Towers Hotel, which became the tallest building in Africa and the first hotel from the country to be named one of the best hotels in the world. He soon branched out to own a hotel in the United Kingdom and a share in a travel company called Trafalgar Tours. After moving to the UK, he made some wise investments in travel brand companies including Contiki Tours and created the Red Carnation Hotels chain, which his wife currently runs. From there, The Travel Corporation was born.

The Travel Corporation

Establishing all of his travel brand investments under one group, Stanley Tollman founded The Travel Corporation, which currently carries more than 25 travel, tour, hotel and leisure groups under its umbrella. According to the company's website, the mission behind The Travel Corporation is to provide "the most enjoyable, enriching travel experience for its customers across the globe" through high standards, excellent service, and product integrity. The Tollman family has owned The Travel Corporation for four generations. It currently conducts business in 60 countries across five continents and there are more than 4,000 members working for the large travel conglomerate, with at least 35 offices around the world.

The Importance of Tourism in South Africa and Asia

Since the time that he helped his parents run their hotel, South African travel and tourism has always been an important part of Stanley Tollman's life. The South African native has helped South African tourism grow substantially with his backing and that of The Travel Corporation.  In October 2010, TTC's International Sales Conference was held in Cape Town, South Africa, and celebrated a new partnership with Tourism South Africa called Destination South Africa.

The Travel Corporation has also seen a surge in the number of Asian travellers helping to support other parts of the world socially and economically. Stanley Tollman himself remarked on this positive growth, telling the world through a TTC press release, that Asian travel must be assisted, not restricted. He also said that their genuine desire to cross borders, provide visitation, and in turn, increase tourism jobs must be helped through a combined effort from the global travel community to eliminate travel obstacles.
