THANK YOU to the voters, who have shown their confidence by electing me to serve my second term as your commissioner!  I am pleased and humbled to represent ALL the residents of  Somerset County!

What does a commissioner do?

Your county commissioners are Pamela Tokar-Ickes, Joe Betta and myself.  We are, basically, the chief executive officers of the County of Somerset, PA.  As a team of three, we are responsible for drafting and implementing the county budget, serving on the board of elections, property assessment, directing personnel, managing veteran services, maintaining the jail and office building (as well as the courthouse and other county owned property), serving on the advisory boards of various county agencies, setting the salaries and determining the number of county employees and various other duties.  In essence, it is our job to make sure that all phases of county government run smoothly.  Members of the current board have worked on many "out of the box" projects, as well.  For a further description of what it is that we do, please visit the commissioners' page of the county website at:  http://www.co.somerset.pa.us/department.asp?deptnum=46.

I currently serve as chairman of the board of commissioners.  You will find me in my office, most days, from 8:30 am to 4 pm (at least).  If you have qustions or concerns, please feel free to stop in and visit me.  If I am not there, I am most likely at some type of meeting or project connected with the county.  Since the nature of the office requires us to be in attendance at many different functions and meetings, it may be best to call ahead at 814-445-1400 to be sure that I am in at the time you want to meet.
