What Does Small Business Really Mean?
Mood:  energetic

I have always heard the words "small business" and took it to mean the little guys - the guys you see everyday.  You don't find them in the Yellow Pages or the Internet, you don't see their billboards or signs all over the place.  They're just there, usually 1 or 2 trucks, just trying to make a living.  They're your pool guys, yard guys, maid service, weekend mechanics, etc.  They don't have a store front or building, no office workers or support staff, no customer service department.  It's usually just them and a couple of people with a sister, wife, or mother who answers the phones for them while they take care of the kids or work their own full-time job.  Maybe they answer their own phones and write down jobs and numbers in a binder.  Whatever they do to earn their living, it's considered "small", but shouldn't be considered "irrelevant".

These people are the back bones of our country.  They're out there every day earning their living and building their clientele from the ground up.  The only problem is, nobody knows who they are except by word of mouth.  They don't have a high paid office manager designing advertising and websites for them.  Nobody is in their corner writing professional proposals or letters of introduction on their behalf to large companies (who have all the money).  The SBA doesn't give them loans or help them finance a new building to hire more people, so where do they find high-dollar advertising at a cheap price to make themselves "look" professional while still paying the bills?  Me.

I am the true Small Business Secretary.  I work for you, the guy in the truck making his living.  I design your webiste, I type your proposals, print your business cards and flyers, schedule appointments and keep you on track and notify your customers if you're running a little late.  I'm the "little guy" who helps the "little guy"; we have to stick together.  I'm just like you.  I'm too small to be able to grow without a little help.  I have always felt that if people come together for a common goal, and if they're above-board, honest, and professional, they can only succeed in life.  I don't lie, cheat, or steal, and I'm very blunt about what I can and can't do.  If you want something that is beyond my skill, I'll tell you I can try to learn it or it's not possible.  I don't charge a "consulting fee", a "monthly fee", or any of those other "fees" that most other people do because it's really not necessary. You call me when you need me and we go from there.  It's a one-time job each and every time with no "maintenance" charges or other nonsense.  I keep your files and advertising copy on my computer just for reference and if you need it again.

You will own all the rights to your advertising.  I design and print you a master copy and you print as many of them as you want.  That's it.  I design and print your business cards, and when you need more, you go get them made or call me and I'll print them for you, whatever works for you - I'll only charge you for the cards and ink and $10.00 an hour for my time.  That's it.  I will give you a rate schedule for my services and you choose what you want, if anything.  If I'm too high, throw it in the trash and you'll never hear from me again.  I WILL NEVER CALL YOU TO ASK FOR WORK!  Unless you ask me to give you a reminder once in awhile, you'll never hear from me.

I'm not your employee; you can pay me cash, check, or whatever and you don't worry about taxes - I pay those myself because I'm self employed.  You don't worry about health insurance, worker's comp, taxes, retirement, nothing.  I take care of all of that myself, just like you do.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, give me a call and mention that you're looking for the Small Biz Secretary!

Take care, and have a blessed day!
