Design Projects

Hello. Welcome to the beginnings of my design work for my first two architecture studios. There are four projects represented here: 1. Mediating the Subconscious -- an analysis of subconscious touches to the face, this device mediates the subconscious relationship between hand and face and attempts to reinforce these relationships by mediating or distorting them in various ways 2. Lamp -- this lamp was designed using templates created in AutoCAD, and then it lasercut and assembled by hand 3. Inhabitable Wall -- this project focused on designing an inhabitable wall for Columbia University's student center, Lerner Hall, based on analysis of the building's HVAC systems and complex program. It penetrates between two existing study rooms, connecting them and diverting the HVAC piping that runs between them. Like a pipe, it exists as both an object and void. 4. Yellow Page Analysis and Manhattan Transformation -- this project began with an analysis of the Yellow Pages as an analog map of Manhattan. I focused on the likenesses between the navigation of the Yellow Pages and of the streets of Manhattan. Both are grid systems. Observing that Broadway is the largest street defying the grid system, I decided to unhinge Broadway and force it to conform to the grid system, thereby unhinging and distorting the regularity of the majority of the city.
