Best Ways To Take Care Of Your Feet

Our feet are among the most used parts of our body yet we rarely give them the care that they deserve. While a pampering trip to the spa can be a good idea but there are other ways we can take care of our feet without spending too much. Here are some of the best ways to take care of the workhorses of our bodies:

1. Wash them regularly

Washing your feet including the spaces between toes regularly helps in getting rid of odor-causing microbes. You can use a washcloth or if you’re having problems in reaching out to your toes, you can use a long-handled shower brush. Make sure to dry your feet and the spaces between your toes thoroughly. Moist areas can be a good breeding ground for bacteria and other microorganisms.

2. Use gentle solution when soaking your feet

Many people use Epsom salts when thinking of soaking their feet in the water. This can be a bad idea if you already have dry skin. Epsom salts have a drying effect and hence, may make you more prone to skin irritation or injury. What you can use instead is warm water mixed with mild soap solution.

3. Don’t forget to moisturize

It’s not only the face or the body that needs moisturizing; the feet need them too especially during the winter months. You don’t need fancy moisturizers to do this. Regular lotions and creams will do just fine.

4. Wear comfortable shoes
One of the best things you can do for your feet is to wear comfortable and well-fitting shoes. Wearing ill-fitting shoes can worsen bunions and distort toe shape.

Aside from making sure that shoes fit well and comfortable to wear, it’s also important to choose shoes that provide good support for your arches. Flat shoes or flip flops do not provide that kind of support. Frequently wearing footwear with less to no support for the arches can make you more prone to develop flat feet.

5. Alternate the shoes you wear

Alternating the shoes you wear enable your shoes to air out, preventing unwanted foot odor or infection to happen. It’s also important to change your socks or stockings everyday to avoid having smelly feet.

6. Be picky with salons

When having a pedicure at salons, make sure that they clean their materials well every after use. If you have diabetes, it’s best to talk to your doctor first before getting a pedicure as a small injury to your toe may lead to amputation.
