Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, One of the Oldest Cities in the World

Allahabad Fort-

One of the chief attractions of the place is a huge Ashoka Pillar, which structured by the Mauryan empire, in the 232 BC. The pillar towers to a height of about 10.6 m and is made out of polished sandstone.


Khusro Bagh -



The garden or park is amongst the popular tourist attractions in Allahabad. It is a historically significant park as it holds the tomb of Prince Khusro. Prince Khusro was one of the sons of Emperor Jahangir, who was killed in the war of succession. It is said that during the fight of succession, Prince Khurram, another son of Jahangir, executed Khusro. The park is an extremely beautiful one that holds a wide range of captivating floral species.


Hanuman Mandir- 

The temple is located at a close distance from the Allahabad fort. It is one of the unique temples of the city, which has a huge idol of Lord Hanuman that towers to a height of about 20 ft and is 8 ft in breath. Lord Hanuman’s idol at this temple is in a reclining position, a few feet below the ground. The temple gets submerged when the water level of the river Ganges rises up. It is believed that this due to the desire of river Ganges to touch the feet of Lord Hanuman and ask for his blessings.


Sangam


Situate at a distance of about 7 km from Civil Lines, Sangam is actually the confluence of the three holy rivers, namely Yamuna, Ganga and Saraswati. It is one of the top tourist attractions of the city as the area holds the globally renowned Kumb Mela, which is organized once in every 12 years. It is believed that a dip in the waters at the confluence of these three holy rivers will free you from all sins.


Best time to visit


The best time to visit the place is during the months of October to March, as during this time of the year, the place experiences pleasant climate allowing sightseeing and other outdoor activities.
