Breakout year for DeMarcus Cousins

For years it’s seemed like it’s been a two horse race for the coveted spot of best center in the fantasy basketball world. This year things could be different because nobody in the league is more likely to jump in that discussion than the former first round pick DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins has had an up and down career to this point. The “down” was his first year in the league when he only averaged 14 points a game and nearly 9 rebounds. The “up” was his next year in the league when he averaged nearly 20 points and over ten rebounds to go with a block, an assist, and a steal. Now clearly this trend can’t keep going up at this pace but there’s every chance that he could crack the 20 points a game barrier this year as the Kings turn to him more and more. He’s going to be a stud fantasy basketball center this year.

Think about it: who else is going to step up for Sacramento in the front court? He has almost twice as many rebounds as the next best guy on the roster and Jason Thompson doesn’t really look primed to change that this year. Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton are still going to be the better perimeter threats but Cousins is going to dominate the paint. Even with double teams he’ll be valuable because there just aren’t many big men with his skill set. If you’re going to draft Cousins in your fantasy basketball league you’re going to have to target him early. Like second round early. It may seem like a reach but just remember that he’s going into his third year and his development so far has been extremely impressive. There’s no reason not to think that he’s going to regress and with his attitude problems in the past he should be the star Sacramento drafted him to be.
