2017 web design trends to look out for

Web design has exploded over the past couple of years. New tools, frameworks, and trends crop up every year, each promising to be better than the previous ones. With such a wildly dynamic space, there is no chance for playing catch up; keeping up with the trends is the only way to stay relevant in web design.

In this post by https://graemewinchester.co.uk we delve into the top web design trends that are likely to define web and mobile digital design in 2017.

Content-centric layouts

As Google (and possibly other search engines) continue to put emphasis on quality content as a major ranking factor, internet marketers and web masters alike are pushing for designs that focus on content layout. No doubt this year, web designers and developers will be looking to meet this need by pushing out more content-centric layouts and designs, both for mobile and web.

Widespread use of SVGs

In the past 3 years, SVGs (scalable vector graphics) have been slowly but steadily winning the hearts and minds of designers and users alike. Since they are vector based and, therefore, resolution independent, SVGs look sharp by default, regardless of screen size. This is arguably their biggest benefit over pixel-based formats - PNG, JPG, and GIF - that have been the norm. More designers than ever before will be ditching heavy traditional formats in favor of SVGs this year.

Animation

2016 was a year of renaissance for animation. There's no reason to think that the trend is will abate this year. As visual tools become more refined, animation will get more prominent and sophisticated.

Flat design will wane

Flat design was all the rage in the past five years. However, in all likelihood, 2017 will be the year that it finally kicks the bucket. The problem with flat design is that there comes a point when everything starts to look similar. There is not enough space for creativity. Designers will be pushing for unique, highly flavored designs in 2017 and flat just doesn't allow space for that.
