Virtual worlds & online gaming: What is their impact?
Introduction
What are virtual worlds and online gaming?
A virtual world is simply a computer-simulated 3D environment
where you can inhabit and interact via computer-simulated beings at
your own leisure. Online gaming are games that are played on a computer
network that often requires players to complete missions or quests
along with other players in an online environment.
Both virtual
worlds and online gaming are well-known as being fantasy spaces that
are sealed off from the outside or the 'real' world. They are
often criticised as a factor that develops anti-social behaviour -
however, the idea that when people spend too much time in fantasy
worlds could develop psychological impairment is often debatable.
