Week One In New Zealand

So far New Zealand is already shaping up to be the best holiday I've ever been on. It's not like my trips to New York or Singapore at all, there's a different vibe to New Zealand that I could only describe as hobbitesque. Unlike the big cities that I'm used to, NZ doesn't really have any huge metropolitan centers, at least not on the scale I'm used to. It's really quite nice in a quaint way, very relaxing and so so scenic.

Our first day in the country was fairly fast paced. We flew into Auckland (biggest city with a population of just 1 million!) and caught a long bus ride into the city center to hire a car. We could have easily hired at the airport and saved ourselves a few hours but we're in cost saving mode, and we were told we could get much cheaper rates by not hiring from the airport, because naturally that's where everyone hires from. We also bought our excess coverage online before we even arrived in the country to save ourselves even more. It's all extra money in the holiday fund!

From there we took the car for a spin and drove down to Centennial Park along with some bread cheese and salami we bough, and made lunch down near the beach.

After that we headed back into town and found ourselves a spot in the hostel (also gave the car a quick hozedown). We were all a bit zonked after al lthat so we crashed on the sofa in the hostel and watched a movie.

Day 2 coming soon!
