Norma Thompson was born in the rural southwestern town of Sunset, Louisiana to hard-working parents that forged a living off of the land.  She spent her childhood surrounded by the colors of nature, the wonders of changing seasons, and the harvesting of crops like cotton and soybean.  Her father was a master gardener when it was less fashionable and more of necessity for feeding a family of five.  Her mother preferred cultivating objects of beauty in the form of roses and daylilies.  Being surrounded by nature and its glorious colors and inherent beauty inspired her artistic talent and was the driving force behind her need to seek creative outlet through art.

In 1985, she earned a B.S. in Art Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL Lafayette) and began a teaching career at TeurlingsHigh School in Lafayette.  Her husband’s transfer to Houston, Texas found her teaching in the GalenaParkSchool District. Although her visible landscape changed with the move, her love of art, design, natural light and the vibrancy of colors never waivered.  She has spent the past 40 years teaching art, producing art and sharing her natural talents with both students and the public.  She has travelled all over the world and the U.S. exploring the beauty of various landscapes, in a variety of artist workshops and honing her natural talents. She is a certified master gardener (for fun, and not necessarily for food) and an accomplished oil and acrylic artist and creates masterful works of art that reflect her genuine passion for color, light and the beauty in nature all around us.
