My Career Web Project; Registered Nursing by Nichole Vonderhaar

Registered nursing makes up the largest group of health care workers; it’s a very credible and well paying job. With the current condition of the economy right now you want to be sure the career you choose is one in which you will be able to find work. With nursing you never have to worry about not finding work, because no matter what shape the economies in we’re always going to need nurses. The pay for a RN is typically around 50,000 dollars a year, with several opportunities for advancement. There is also several different school which offer great Nursing programs, so you will easily find a place to attend. Some schools which provide great schooling in nursing include: Santa Fe, University of Florida, and University of North Florida. Nurses typically work directly with patients and their families and are usually the first to notice problems because they work so closely with the patients. RN’s typically perform all kinds of procedures; for instance: patient evaluations, monitoring and tracking vital signs, giving shots, IV placement, phlebotomies, administering medicine, and other procedures. Becoming a Registered Nurse is a well paying reliable job, but it’s also a way to help others. Do you plan on having a family? If you choose this field you will have time for a family. Most jobs in this field allow for flexibility, allowing you to choose when you want to work. You also receive benefits with this job, so the family will have health and dental insurance. Another advantage is the amount of employment opportunities. With this career you never have to worry about finding a place to work because there are ample places for employment. In Gainesville for instance; we have three hospitals and several private practices, which all employee registered nurses. What’s the Stress like? Everyone knows there are no stress free jobs, but if you enjoy helping others then you should love this career choice. With this job you are able to work hands on with the patients getting to know them. Nurses are a vital part of the health field and play a critical role in the well being of people who are sick, and we need people that enjoy helping others. This career may not be perfect for everyone though. In this career field you will be dealing with a lot of sick people and even death. Therefore, some days may be extremely hard and even sad because when working with patients you tend to grow attached to some of them. Nursing is a job you can plan to stick with your whole life. As a nurse there will never be a time when you aren’t needed because people will always get/be sick. Therefore, if you choose a career in nursing you can be certain you are picking one that is going to be around forever. An additional advantage to this career is the opportunity for advancement. Once you become a registered nurse there are several different programs for advancement. For instance, there is a two year bridge program from RN to Nurse Practitioner. There are several other programs in which you could consider for advancement.
