Learn to Organize Network Cable

Low cost, ease of installation and security are some of the reasons behind the use of wired networks in many business and home networks, despite the growing popularity of wireless networking. But they have some disadvantages too such as they are difficult to manage and can easily end up as a tangled mess. Here are some tips to organize network cable:

•           Use different colors for different types of devices. This will help you in visually organizing network cables. For instance, you can use blue CAT 5 cables for your desktop computers and a white cable for your printer.

•           To identify individual network cable, use labels. You can use handheld label-makers or a folded sticky note or masking tape, to make neat, easy-to-read labels.

•           Tie your network cables together into neat bundles. For optimum results, use a tie every 10 to 12 inches. You can use nylon cable ties for this purpose. They are cheap, come in all sizes and make it easy to bind together bundles of cables. But they are not adjustable, once they have been tightened and would have to be cut off to be removed.

•           You can also wrap your cables using a wire wrap instead of using cable ties.

•           Hide your bundled cables by using a cable-organizing system. Cable organizers look like plastic boxes which are open at both ends with room in the middle for the cables. You can find them in all sizes and colors, and you can also paint them according to your room's decor.
