The home recording studio setup

Although it may seem like a far away dream, you can actually record music in your own home. And I'm not talking about that gibberish music. You can actually compose and record your stuff like a pro. So, before getting into more details, we should talk about your dream. Dreams come true only if you work enough. Don't jump to audio stores if you don't know how to sing. Make sure that your vocals are tight, make sure that your lyrics are tight before considering acquiring a recording studio setup.

Things you need to buy in order to build your music studio:

1. the microphone

2. the preamp

3. the audio interface

4. a laptop or a computer

5. cables, mic stand, pop filter

6. studio monitors and headphones

7. a mixer

8. recording software

9. audio foam

Make sure you get the best microphone you can afford, since it 's the first item in the recording chain. You can skip the preamp if your audio interface has a phantom power source and a preamp. You can use any laptop or computer you can find, but make sure they are fast. When you record with multiple tracks, it can freeze if it's not powerful enough. A mixer is optional if you are recording vocals, but it's necessary if you record multiple instruments.  As for software, you can use Cubase or Nuendo.

The promotion

After you have recorded the songs, you need to promote them. As you know, Youtube is huge these days, so you should start there. Make a new account, use your stage name and upload your songs. Don't worry if you don't have any knowledge on how to make a video. Just use Movie Maker from Windows, add a picture of you and after that add the song. Export the video and upload it to Youtube. Try to share your video's Youtube link with as many people as possible. If you do manage to get famous (over 100,000 views per video) you should consider becoming a Youtube partner. If you are lucky, music labels will contact you in order to get you signed. Pretty neat, right?
