The Subaru Legacy and its Jetson-like Powers

Ah, the Jetsons, that futuristic family that needed only to ask and breakfast would appear in front of them, providing them with perfectly calculated nutrition before they flew off in their beyond awesome flying vehicles to their to-die-for offices. It is enough to make us think that we were born in the wrong time. We are getting there, though. Just ask the good folks at Subaru in North County, San Diego: the Subaru Legacy has some safety features that can make us feel like that Jetson future is closer that we think.

Bang. Ear-splitting crunch.

Car accidents happen every minute in America; they are by no means rare. Flying continues to be a much safer proposition than driving a car, so we should do what we can to prepare for what seems like an inevitable happening ñ our car accident.

Imagine that you are driving your Subaru Legacy down a lovely suburban street, lined with magnificent trees, when, out of nowhere, an oil truck backs out on to the street directly in front of you. It is easy to panic in such a situation. Your Subaru Legacy can help you out; it has a pre-collision throttle management feature. This means that your car will stop you from accelerating as the oil truck appears even if you are physically pressing on the accelerator. The idea is that the crash is avoided or at least that the impact is lessened.

Drifting away?

All drivers have occasionally drifted into a lane where they don't belong; we may be a little tired or distracted by that wasp that is crawling around the steering wheel it is an understandable thing, and quite dangerous. If there are clearly marked lane identifiers, your Subaru Legacy will warn you that you are swaying off in a direction to a place you don't want to be.

Hey, who put on the brakes?

Your Subaru Legacy did. Yes, the Legacy has the ability to automatically brake when faced with a large object directly in front of it. The driver need never put sole of foot to pedal. Of course, the driver is ultimately responsible for preventing accidents but this is one cool tool.

We take great care to be safe in our daily lives: eating well, exercising, and helping our loved ones. The designers of the Legacy subaru cars get that we want to be safe for our families and ourselves. And if there is more than a little Jetson-y cool about its methods  all the better.
