American Revolution Web Quest

Hello, Students!

Imagine you live in the United Colonies of Great Britain. You are a subject of Queen Esther II, who lives thousands of miles away, and most of your money goes to pay very high taxes to support anything your Queen wants to do, including her frequent shopping sprees in France. Everyone in the United Colonies must follow everything the Queen mandates, including dying your hair blue and eating nothing but oatmeal on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Sometimes your friends and you think about another life where you wouldn’t have to change your hair color and could eat scrambled eggs and bacon for a Monday morning breakfast and a cheesesteak for a Wednesday's dinner, but you have to be very quiet about those thoughts. If the Queen’s secret policemen find out about anyone not wanting to follow what Queen Esther says, the offender will be immediately arrested and sent to prison.

If it was not for the American Revolution, Queen Esther II and her insane demands could be a reality. The colonies in the New World were founded on the ideas that following a King or Queen might not be good for everyone and when the colonists had finally had enough of the King’s demands, they began the war that has shaped the United States of America.

Each group member will write a journal based one of the following perspectives; a Continental soldier, a British soldier, the commanding officer, or a farmer in Bucks County. Using the information students gather about the battle, the group will come together to create a PowerPoint presentation. This project will be worth 30 points, which will be based on the students' journal entries and the class presentation.

So...

Step 1 Get together with your group members and decide who will represent which historical perspective.
Step 2 Do some research!
Step 3 Write your journals.
Step 4 Get back together with your group and create your presentation.
Step 5 Present the presentation to the class and hand in your journals.
