What people do not realize, is that skim boarding has been around for ages. The first skim board to date back was in 1920 at Laguna Beach California. Until recently, skimboarding has grown into a popular water sport for kids to adults. There is a lot more to skim boarding than meets the eye. It takes technique, balance, good hand and eye cordination, and allows little room for mistake. There are a variety of tricks you can preform, most tricks mirror ones you can do while skateboarding and surfing. Skimboarding can be looked at as hydroplaning and keeping your balance at the same time. Once you can grasp the nack of jumping onto the skimboarding without falling you'll never loose it.

Steps to learn before skim boarding

• Investigate surroundings, look for rocks and sticks
• Wait until skim is appox. 2-3 inches to throw board
• Run with board until jumping on to gain momentum
• When jumping onto board, don't jump too high, you may miss it
• Once on board, bend your knees slightly
• Use your arms to balance
• Hit the wave however you please. Warning: It may hurt
