A Brief History of Mindanao Cable TeleVision.

Before 1992, Zamboanga City can only receive television signals by means of conventional antenna system and viewers have to make do with the poor reception and delayed telecast of some local channels.

The urge to have a cable system in the City so that residents of Zamboanga will have the same opportunity as those in Luzon and Visayas and other cities in the Philippines has led Mr. Manuel L. Tan and the late Mr. Jose A. Lopez Sr., and some other friends to decide to put up a cable system in the city, and so on the month of August of 1992, the first cable system in Zamboanga City was established... The Mindanao Cable TeleVision (MCTV) with only 10 staff, MCTV then started serving their pioneer subscribers.  Airing 12 channels only, most of which were live local channels that aired news and entertainment to the Zamboangueños.  In 1995, MCTV improved it's programming by adding more channels like HBO, CINEMAX, ESPN, STAR MOVIES, STAR SPORTS, CNBC, NBC, DISCOVERY AND CNN, to satisfy it's subscribers from the outskirts of Zamboanga City, MCTV widened its scope area by branching out to Recodo in 1996, thus serving the residents of Recodo, Ayala, Cawit, Tulungatung, and some part of Maasin with 4 employees and 12 channels to start with. At present, there are over 20 channels in that area.

Now, a decade after, with more than 35 employees in four (4) departments (Admin, Marketing, Technical & Recodo) and 2 Head-end Officers( Veterans & Recodo), we have more than 55 channels to offer the growing population of  Zamboanga City, have weathered a lot of crisis, and still, we are here to give the best quality service we can. This only shows how dedicated we, at MCTV, are in bringing news and entertainment to you. This, we will continue to do, to the best of our ability and service, now and through the coming years…
