The Island of Rab

The island of Rab is located between the islands of Krk of Pag. With almost 2500 hours of sunshine on a yearly basis, it ranks as one of the sunniest corners of Europe. However, it does get enough rain to keep it lush with greenery. The highly indented coast is filled with coves surrounded by pine forests, especially in the southwest part of the island. In the northeast however, Lopar has two of the prettiest beaches in Croatia. Besides the coast, the interior is rural, with large amounts of vineyards and olive trees. The town of Rab, along with 6 other villages – Mundanija, Supetarska Draga, Kampor, Banjol, Palit and Barba, make up the island.

Rab is a beautiful town in Croatia located on an island of the same name. The town is situated between the bay of St. Eufemija and the town port, and it is a typical medieval urban town surrounded by stone walls, with 4 bell towers dominating the core of the old town. The name Rab was first mentioned in the middle of the 15th century but numerous cultural and historical monuments represent its thousand year old history.

If you wish to go sightseeing, you should start from the old part of the town, the tower, and the church of St. Kristofor. Then, move on to the remains of the St. John the Evangelist church and convent, St. Cross church, the Liberty square, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral, Municipium Arbe square, the port and the town lodge.

Rab is the perfect mix of a relaxed and active holiday. The sightseeing and sports activities (such as football, beach volleyball, diving, renting out jet skis, sailing, water skiing, cycling….) will keep you busy, after which you can go spend your time on the beach. Beautiful pebbly and sandy beaches are located on this island, such as Kampor beach, Suha Punta beach, Banova Vila and the most famous is Rajska plaza (or Paradise beach).

Kampor is one of the few places that preserved the aspect of an old fishing place. Kampor is home to the forest reservation “Dundo” on the peninsula Kalifront, rich with stone and sandy beaches, beautiful promenades and cycling paths. The trademark of the place however, is a Franciscan monastery of St. Eufemija, the patron saint of the parish and the town. If you would like to experience the gastronomy of the island, as well as savor the specialties of Kampor, be sure to visit the restaurants “Eufemija” and “Punta”.
