If the hives are not as severe or are manageable you could try out either some over the counter medication or some home remedies. 


b)Over the counter medication :


You could buy some over the counter antihistamines like diphenhydramine (Benadryl) or chloropheniramine. These have prove highly effective with hives. The only drawback with such medication is drowsiness. Hence, these medicines must be used after carefully reading the dosage and effects.


c)Home remedies :


The most common and effective home remedies include – 


•Cold compress : A wet cloth or some ice wrapped in a cloth help in reducing the swelling .

•Bath/ oatmeal bath : A bath works along the same principle as a cold compress. Cold water shrinks the blood vessels and thus reduces leakage.

Adding colloidal oatmeal to your bath proves highly beneficial as it reduces itching. 

 

•Aloe vera : This is used in many creams and gels due to its soothing properties. Applying some aloe vera on the affected area not only soothes the skin but also prevent spreading of hives when applied to  unaffected regions.
