This course is intended for students who have met the FloCan School’s writing and reading requirements and who will enter a first year course in English. English I emphasize higher order thinking skills through project-based units which address a variety of learning styles. By using both fiction and nonfiction as models of writing, students analyze what they read and apply similar techniques in their own writing. The research, technology, listening, and speaking support includes the development of these skills. In this course students read literary and nonliterary works of various lengths; they develop test-taking skills for a variety of assessments; they create single and multi-paragraph writing for a variety of purposes.
