Guide To The Army

Thank you for visiting my page at Angelfire. My book is entitled “A Woman’s Guide to the Army from a Survivor.” It details all facets of military life for young enlistees from the recruitment process, to basic training, to military careers.

As the author Marguerite Patterson, I was quoted by the Post Tribune, 2005, saying “she wants young people considering military service to be informed about the system and the commitment involved. In college you can change your major. In the military you don’t have that luxury.”

My book is insightful with descriptive details of life in the Armed service. I begin the book by depicting the atmosphere of eight weeks of rigorous basic training. Then, I talk about the pros and cons to military life and advance training needed for assigned occupations.

The latter part of the book is devoted to questions and answer to be directed to the recruiters and the readers themselves. It includes military web-sites and information about the service (i.e. GI Bill etc.,). Questions teenagers and young adults should be asking military recruiters (and themselves) are pointed out. The book provides the reader with hints on how to be successful in the service and how to better prepare for joining the military.

I am well qualified to write this book, because I served in the Army and understand the training and promises that can be made to new recruits. In addition, I worked as an editor, writer and producer of a local public service radio program focusing on current events. In addition, I was a political science major and understand the political impact of sending our soldiers to war.

The book is intended to provide guidance not necessarily to promote or dissuade a military career.

It is important that they receive as much information as you can before making such a big decision in your life. Recruiters don’t always tell you the facts.
