First you imagine the design which is suitable to your product or site. Then draw that imagination to the paper sheet. make alterations after that. Decoration: the important one is colour scheme in the logostore. Some clients would prefer contrast color, some of the people likes simple and light colours. So please before you prepare the logo design discuss the colour schemes with your lients.
