Meaningful Topics I Learned in CISB11

Igoogle- the first topic/assignment we worked on was a pretty darn useful one in my eyes. The whole personal homepage thing was new to me, I never had one or knew anything about them but with this assignment it made things very simple. The customizing part is very simple, little boxes you move around and apps to all sorts of things that you like for example the “your momma joke” app that’s pretty funny and cool that its there just for laughs but you can incorporate it in your page. This homepage thing is pretty useful in the computer world; I think it’s the foundation for the intro program to creating web pages and personal pages the basics of it.

Linux- this one was huge for me, ive always heard of Linux but never learned anything on it, I used to think it was just windows that were at the top of everything. I never had anyone shine light on Linux until this class came around, im still learning about Linux and have always had an interest in it but was always under the impression that its difficult to use compared to the ease of windows, im still trying to learn Linux but the overview this class gave got me more interested in learning Linux and I will most likely be taking a class on it. Linux will help my future due to the fact I am getting into computer networking and would like to learn all the platforms.

Creating web pages- this one was pretty tough do to, not being able to use those master programs that are 400 bucks or so it’s hard to have the full features of creating a web page. The free ones don’t give all the full features but I think they do a good job showing the basics, ive always wanted to make some crazy well made web page but it looks very hard the free ones I used in class showed some things but not all, im very interested in taking web page classes as well and start designing them for small business and things in that nature. Dream weaver seems to be the best for this I think.

Wi-fi this was my favorite thing to learn about the security aspect, I love securing my wi-fi router and doing it to others as well I jus like the feeling of being secure and keeping people out, I like the mac filters that’s a powerful tool to keep invaders out I also learned more about the wep coding as well as wpa, wpa is said to be harder to crack the hex key but ive heard wep is better at controlling the inbound and outbound traffic

But that’s another mystery for me to learn in this world, this is really going to help me in the future cause im majoring in network security so it’s going to be very helpful in my future.
