Welcome to Peru
BY LATRICE JONES
Here is a Geo-Tour Of Peru:
Day 1…..
We will arrive at the Hospedaje Kinsa Cocha, run by the Chalca
family, it’s one of the many eco lodges in Peru that allows you to
understand the culture firsthand. It’s a very simple hotel that offers
clean and neat dorm style rooms with shared bathrooms that has
wood-heated hot water. You’ll relax in your room for the night for
acclimatization to the altitude. When you awake the following morning
you will be led on a city tour including downtown(Spatial Tradition).
You will visit Kiricancha (Sun Temple), Main Square, Cathedral, and the
impressive Sacsayhuamon ruins (an example of the Man-Land Tradition).
Then we’re headed hiking to Nevada Chachani (6,057m) and El Misti
(5,822m) which both are spectacular volcanoes. You can also hike the
remote mountain areas in and around the historic city of Cusco and
Chachapoyas which is the archeological sites in northern Peru. After
hiking we will go birding in Manu National Park. Peru is home to over
1,800 species of Himmingbirds, 33 Cotings, and 142 species of Antbirds,
several species of Macaw, and rare birds like the white-Winged Guan and
the flightless Junin Grebe. You will be given the opportunity to see
all of them!!! (Who knows you could discover a new species!!) Then
you’ll end your day with dinner at Pescados Capitales, a beautiful
seafood restaurant, serving mouth-watering sea delicacies, along with
Ceviche, Tiraditos, and Causas.
Day 2….
We’ll begin the second day trekking in the Peruvian Andes. The Andes
mountain range is the highest mountain range outside Asia. The most
famous trekking routes are Cordiller Blanca, Olleros-Chavin Llama Trek,
Cordiller Huayhuash, Colca Valley and Mount Ausangate. After trekking
we’re headed off to sightseeing in Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is a pre-
Columbian Inca site located 2,400 meters above sea level. Often
referred to as “The Lost City of the Incas”, Machu Picchu is probably
the most familiar symbol of the Inca Empire. It was built around the
year 1450, but abandoned a hundred years later, most likely because of
smallpox transferred over from the foreigners at the time of the
Spanish Conquest of the Inca Empire. The lost city of the Incas has
become an important tourist attraction and is one of the Seven Wonders
of the World. It’s primary buildings are the Intihuatana, the temple of
the sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. After that we’re hitting
the water, although Peru is mainly noted for its scenic landscapes and
amazing Inca sites, the country also has some world- class beaches
offering excellent conditions for surfing and other adventurous
water-ports(an example of the Earth Science Tradition). Some of the
world’s best surfing can be found on 2,600km along the Peruvian
coastline, including the Puerto Chicama, the longest wave in the world.
Then you will end your 2nd and last day with dinner at Costa Verde,
located in a scenic location of Miraflores, Costa Verde(Area Studies
Tradition). They serve mouth-watering Peruvian and international
cuisines. It’s quite an expensive restaurant, and has been included in
the Guinnes Book of Records for the world’s largest buffet.
