How teachers can help children to learn math at school?

Every child is unique and therefore the best way for them to learn math in school depends on their instinctive aptitude and the level of interest that they demonstrate in math. What math teachers must do is sustain, develop and refine this aptitude and interest by creating an atmosphere that inspires learning and using activities that are effective and engaging for them. Parents should also try to use the methods that are used by school teachers so the children can continue to learn at home as well.

Well there are some steps for teachers to teach math at school.

  • Increase understanding of the basic categories within the subject of math that are taught in school. Although school syllabuses can change and new math topics may be added in future, most schools have the following topics included in their syllabus for children.
  1. Geometry: young children learn about shapes such as square, circle and triangle.
  2. Mathematical language terms: understanding equations and terms such as "add," "subtract" divide, multiply and "equal to."
  3. Measurements: learning to measure distance, length, width and quantities etc.
  4. Number sense: understand what numbers mean and their value for example, how many is 5 or 10.
  5. Space and location: it means to be near, far, behind or ahead of something else.
  • Focusing on different mathematical skills that need to be developed to help the children’s learning math in school. Maths Tutor Sydney often use teaching methods that focus on 1 skill area at a time during early learning stages so the children develop a clear concept of how to differentiate between diverse tactics used to solve mathematical problems.
  • Teachers need to teach geometry to children in a way that will helpful for them. So, teachers tell children the names of different shapes and then ask them to repeat them. Ask the students to join shapes to create new shapes and the name of the final shape and the smaller shapes used to create it. Teachers need to increase the accuracy of the children's understanding of shapes by having them draw the shapes on blank papers.
  • Teachers should use math language terms such as "add, subtract, multiply or divide" while talking or singing to children. They also need to read books or show videos that demonstrate how children can get more of something by adding, or less than something by dividing. Teachers should conducts different activities with children. For example, give 2 children a different number of toys and then ask them to share so they both have an equal number of toys.
  • Teaching measurements are the best way to teach children’s performance to learning math. Offer the children have a collection of similar toys but of different in colors. For example, some have yellow and some blue toy cars. So, teachers ask the children that how many he or she has of each color. Teachers also think of a number and ask the children to guess what it is by giving clues. For example, they could say that the number is between 3 and 8.

The above steps help teachers to teach math with more efficiently to their students.
