Our Trip Has Been Planned

The Sprankle family has planned a trip out west this summer to visit the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and we cannot wait!  I've made this website for our family and friends to be able to follow our schedule and to view at bit of what we will be experiencing in real life.  I am also creating this website to post pictures, videos, and journal entries upon our return.

Who's Going?

The Sprankle's, that's who!  My husband, Ken, a fish biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, me, Kim, a library assistant at Northfield Mount Hermon School, and our two girls, Katie, 12 years old, and Julie, 9 years old.  I used to live and work at the National Elk Refuge near Grand Teton NP, and we are excited to be going back for this second visit as a family - our first visit was in September 2001 (yes, we were there during the 9/11 attacks).  During that visit Katie was 2 1/2 years old and I was pregnant with Julie.  On that visit we also spent time in Glacier National Park, which was beyond beautiful, but a long drive from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.  On this trip we are opting to spend more time hiking and enjoying the landscape, and hopefully seeing all sorts of wildlife.

The types of wildlife we are hoping to see include:

  • bison
  • elk
  • moose
  • grizzly and black bear (but not too close!)
  • wolf
  • coyote
  • bighorn and pronghorn sheep
  • deer
  • and lets not forget about all of the FISH!
